siiickk...how does that even happen?

1990TSI 07-08-2009 08:51 PM

Seized caliper or sliders will do that.

see how there's lots of meat left on the visable pad, but the otherside is missing completely?

Looks like the caliper piston ate through the rotor.

I wish I had a camera at work for this kind of awesome. It's usually a wheel bearing or balljoint about to fall apart completely and the customer will just bring it in cuz of a noise they've been hearing.... I've seen a few rotors down to the vents though, orange wheel and all.

to answer your question properly pedro-bear, pure ignorance makes this happen.

Iceman-19 07-08-2009 08:59 PM

Holy shit. Ive never seen a rotor like that. Saw the front rotors to the vents, customer complaining of brake noise.

Also, look at how much rust there is on the brakes and suspension of that car. Wherever it is, they use a lot of salt on the roads.

seeing that much rust, i'm not so sure routine brake maintenance would have helped

slammer111 07-10-2009 01:33 AM

What's holding that ring of metal (the outer edge of the rotor) in place? JUST the caliper?

That must be a whole load of kilometers for the rears to do that. Somewhere around the order of 500,000km?

c32 07-16-2009 06:53 PM

wow u sure thats not a car taken out of the water?

godwin 08-20-2009 05:19 PM

Look guys, the car is more than likely a flooded car.. notice the bushings, joints are all rusted out.. and having been moved for a long time.. it is more than likely the car was towed with brakes on / seized and it just wore away.
