Why is my dog acting sketchy?

Ok, my parents have this dog. they got her at 8 weeks old, weve had her for 3 years and the dog was recently banned from petsmart because the groomers put in a complaint. She a maltese/yorkshier terrior/shitzu mix and only ways about 3-4 pounds. Its odd that she would act this way because she usually welcoming to strangers. In otherwords, if someone broke into my house, she'd want to be pet by the burglar.

Anyways back on topic. I've had to clip her myself for the last 6 months and i havn't seen her complain once. My parents found a new place to take her to get groomed cause they'll drug her to cut her hair, which is common.

Shes been acting sketchy lately. running into the room jumping on the couch and quickly settles down. she'll run into a room and quickly run out.

I've never seen her act this way before so my question is, what could it be?

Also, i took my other dog (10 years old) in for teeth scaling and he had quite a few teeth pulled (same vet place). brought him home and after the drugs wore off he was completely back to normal... plus he was put through quite a bit of discomfort after his teeth were removed and he isnt acting sketchy at all.

is my dog just retarded?

Like run into a room and run out and run in circles? I think it's fairly common, my parents dog used to do it all the time they eventually grew out of it. They would run circles around the house at top speed it was actually pretty funny to watch.

do they walk or exercise the dog? If the dog doesn't get "enought" exercise, they go nuts and for sure run in circles all over the house

What was the dog banned for? just curious =)

Try taking the dog for more walks so she can get her exercise. My dog is pretty hyper too, but after walks, he super calm and just chills.

dog park with fence will be great success. Burns the excess energy within first 20mins. Running in circle = excited.

the dog was banned for nipping/biting the groomer. or atleast acting like she was going to. its weird cause shes totally normal around everyone but the groomer.

i'm guessing its probably lack of exercise. she seems to be running to and from her destination to make up for it. i have a big back yard so its weird how she doesn't get enough exercise. if i leave the front door open, she books it. so yeah i guess the dogs just excited lol.

thanks for the help guys! :)

Grooming and being pat by a stranger are two totally different things. When you groom the dog you more then likely adjust how you do things to suit what your dog wants. Or just not do something as you know they will not like it. A groomer has to do certain things, as you are paying them to do a job. I know from working in a grooming shop how many (especially small dogs) were horrible for grooming, but were gems at home. When you get the owners to actually try even just properly brushing the dog, they would be shocked to see the reaction they would get.

Dogs won't excercise themselves. Just because you have a big backyard means nothing.
Is someone going out with the dog? Do you get a game started? Having space is nice, but most dogs won't excercise themselves. Running from one spot to another is also brain stimulation, being bored the dog has given itself a job

sounds like she needs attention and exercise like people have said. i always go in with mine when he gets his nails clipped and he's totally fine. just get them used to having their paws touched

I agree with the others about exercise. However, I'd also like to add that it sounds like she does well with being groomed at home, so I would personally stick to that because the thought of drugging a dog up so often just to be groomed scares me (it's really not that good for them, if it can be helped).

i'm not fine with any buddy drugging my dog up unless its for a medical procedure.

My dog ain't the best with strangers and hates to be seperated with us. He has known to fear bite but never in the hands of our groomer and i'm sure they did not drug him.

You need to get the dog use to being groom regularly especially now that issue about being handled has come up.

Does the dog seem angry or nething like that?

but like others have said, he's just prolly bored definitely not retarded LOL

Many years ago My friends dog once ran into his room and onto his bed which i was sitting on. And I don't think that dog liked me very much.. ran into the room went under his bed, jumped up startling me and ran away. It's a tiny little dog too and it jumped with enough force to actually shake me... Dogs can be weird sometimes...

Maybe you have a ghost in your house that's taunting your dog?
