Help with removing Battery from 98 cavalier.

I am replacing the battery in my moms 98 cavalier because it got so corroded that the piece on the battery where u screw the ground in has detatched itself from the battery and there isn;t a good enough connection. So went to pick-a-part and got a new battery. The hold down bolt is also a little bit corroded and will not budge. Ive clamped a vice grip onto the bottom bolt, then used a ratchet to try to loosen the top but all im doing is stripping the bolt. I have also tried clamping the top while turning on the bottom. I got sum wd-40 and sprayed that fucker down like no tmr. I also used baking soda and water to get rid of some of the corrosion. Bolt just wont budge.....Can ne1 give me sum advice on what to do? I need to fix this today.....

if it's not budging you might have to just cut it off (hacksaw) then get a new holddown bolt.

if you are striping a bolt with a rachet then you are using the wrong size, or a 12pt instead of a 6 pt.

with the right size 6pt the bolt would break before the head striped. if the vice grip end is striping then use 2 rachets or 1 rachet 1 box wench.

Heat up the bolt head, then try removing it. If that doesn't work, then you'll have to drill a hole into the center and use an easy-out to remove it.

I don't think you'd want to be tourching metal bolts with a plastic battery 3 mm under it
