Quick question, what separates say a $80.00 LCD Wall Mount to a $200.00 one?

Quality? If you're paying for the lesser one, is it all that worse than the more expensive one?

Nothing. Just buy the cheapest one that has the features you need.

You have to ask yourself...
1) whether the wall mount can hold the size and weight of your TV
2) whether you need different features (like tilting, swing arm etc)
3) fittment and clearance, some mounts will stick out a lot, some will block the cooling fan etc.

then pick the cheapest one out there

$200+ is just a cash grab for Futureshop/BB..dont fall for it!

for cheap ones it's just simple tilt function..which is usually useless unless you put it up high (ie over a fireplace)

most important thing is if weight and screw fitment matches up (usually they do)

finding a cheap one is one thing, being able to mount it on your wall is another.

There is some cheap 1's on Craigs list but someone said they bought 1 and it was a fucking piece of shit. So you might want to stay away from that. Most big stores they are just marked up because they know people will buy them.

I bought this one a while back. Works pretty well, and is quite solid. Holds my 42" TV with no problems.

Doesn't have the fancy articulating arms or cable management but if you don't need those features, why pay for them? The one I bought was $29 at the time ($31 now), and there is a slightly cheaper one. They claim this one is "premium" (it's just thicker/heavier steel construction).

Like others have said, just make sure it's rated for the size and weight of your TV and you shouldn't have a problem. Also, make sure you mount it to the studs in your wall so it's braced properly.

One suggestions (what I did) was to find a reasonably thick piece of plywood (around 3/8" - 1/2"), paint it the same color as your wall, and screw it down to the studs in the wall. Make sure you use a reasonably long screw so it's secured properly, and install the mount onto the plywood. That'll give you some flexibility on where you can mount and screw down the wall mount to (in case their mounting holes don't line up with where you want the TV)

I build my own out of steel for a few bucks.

you're hanging a 40" tv off a 3/8" piece of plywood? that's a litty scary. if you're going to go that route I would have used at least 3/4

what I hate is all the TV's I've mounted have crappy ass backs. the screws just go into the platic back with metal nuts inside of the TV. even with a 100% solid mount the tv will still move a lot because it doesn't have a solid metal frame inside.

That just sounds very sketchy to me ... I did notice that a lot of TVs look like that ... I want to mount my TV up on the wall but looking at the back I'm a bit iffy about it but supposedly its rated to hold it on the studs ...

i bought mine from monoprice but the shipping is expensive...i did my buddies two tv's a while back...took about an hour...they have the tilt and sideways movement which is really unnecessary since the front piece is dang heavy so you need at least another persons help to put the front piece in place

It's held up pretty well. There's a total of 8 screws holding the back plate to the plywood, and another 4x 3" screws holding it to the studs on the wall, so the weight is pretty well distributed. 3/4 would have been nice but I didn't have any lying around and it's probably a bit overkill for a smallish 42" TV. It's been hanging up for a year now and it's still attached to the wall.

If you ship other stuff to a US mailing address regularly, use that address, as the item is heavy. I shipped my mount, and a bunch of USB, HDMI and audio cables and shipping was $12.28. It's well worth it to drive down and pick it up, especially if you're already going down to pick up other stuff.
