93 Civic brake pad brands I have a '93 Civic sedan and it needs brake pads. There are a few brands I'm looking at: PBR, Nissin, and Akebono. Could you guys tell me which of these are best, I'm only looking for a good OEM replacement. |
Akebono is what honda and toyota uses straight from factory. Nissin will be a good bet as well as many of the JDM manucatures (Honda included) use their products straight from factory. PBR ranks last as it's just some gay ass regular pad made from the middle of no where. |
Why did you not consider Hawk's? PBR's = Axxis. They are made in Australia and imho are very good pads (the ultimates) |

just noticed today, a set of oem honda pads had "AK" stamped on them. Could be Akebono? |
one of the better pads is the EBC, which we sell. easy on rotors, low dust, high performance. |
What do you mean by "best", best in what? brake performance? temperature? price? weight? In terms of stopping the car, tires and the contact patch sizes can improve or degrade brake performance more significantly. In the latest SAE journal there is a study that points out from the driver's perspective, most drivers can't tell the difference between variations between different brake components substitution when they drive daily. Just by changing say a brake pad brand / model won't "statistical significantly" improve your car's brake performance. |
