what should i do about these blue lights?
 

hi guys,

just bought an integra and from waht i understand, it has daylight lights, night time lights and high beams.

The previous owner, for the night-time lights only, installed these blue lights. They're 100% NOT hid lights, but rather just blue normal headlights. he actually said it's a bit brighter than normal, but my friend said that the blue actually makes it LESS bright.

Either way, i'm wondering:
a. are these legal? Once again, NOT HID lights, but at the same time, i don't think u can find these at canadian tire

b. should i bother changing them? My ONLY concern is being ticketed. Will a cop mistake them for hids? Are these illegal? etc.

any advice?

White light is composed of all colors of the spectrum. If your lights are blue, then some of the spectrum is being filtered out. So right there, you're losing some of the light.

Besides that, white and yellow (amber) are the only colors allowed for your front lights. If they're blue-tinged you MAY not draw attention, but if they're BLUE blue, then they're probably quite illegal.

ok so sounds like they're illegal then

these are blue-tinged and won't attract attention. What I'm worried about is getting a ticket from a cop. Not too likely i'd think, but possible.

Should i just wait for these to dim down, and THEN get new ones?? hmmmmm

Just go get new ones - get your full light output and eliminate the chance of getting ticketed for them. I believe the SilverStars are highly recommended.

Sylvania Silverstars are one of the brightest, stock wattage bulb readily available, but they burn out quick (~ 9 months anecdotal average) and are expensive ($25 each, IIRC)?

But they do have a 12 month warranty, so keep the reciept you can keep swapping them if they keep burning out.

they are a blue colored bulb, and they are definatley brighter and whiter than my original bulbs. Why that is, i have no idea. These are DOT and street legal.
My first set, one of the burned out in a year. I ended up buying another set, then returning the old ones. Costco's got a great return policy.

those bulbs are most likely a sylvania silverstar- "cool blue" bulb or a regular luminiks bulb from an aftermarket shop. The bluer the bulb, the more light it cuts back on. in other words, reduced lighting. Put a set of sylvania silverstar ultras in or an inexpensive bulb set from ebay (decent brand) Judging by your post, they seem illegal, but what isn't these days

I've seen the actual bulbs, the tint is not light blue like this:

However, the output is nothing nearly as blue as I've seen on the road before.

those two you posted are not them. the tint is wayy darker then the eurolite. trust me ive used those eurolite lol.. and they suck. but, they are cheap lol

I was talking about the bulbs in the OP's car, not Silverstars.

Silverstars are not tinted darker than those eurolites (silverstar on the left, standard clear/yellows on the right):

yepp they are not tinted darker. but theres a bulb by sylvania called "cool blue" that does come out more blue.

the one you posted is most likely S.S or S.S Ultra and those are a white with a tint of blue (ultras are pure white with a tiny hint of yellow/green/blue at times... looks like pure white though)

ok what i need to do is decide whether these lights look blue or white! One day they look blue, the next white. And distance plays a role.

If they look white, fuck it, i'll just keep themfor the time being
