Mega Job Fair

The 2009 Mega Job Fair will have about 100 exhibitors from various fields and sectors to talk to job seekrs about available job opportunities in their organizations. Job seekers will have free access to hundreds of employers and career choices under one roof in one day.

We recommend that newcomers bring along a stack of resumés and wear professional clothing. Come early, talk with confidence and share the best of yourself. Prepare a list of questions that you wish to ask the exhibitors. If you are well prepared and organized, you may get interviewed, get important information about your career prospects, make important networking contacts, get practical experience at interacting with HR personnel or you may even get hired at the job fair.

When is it?

CorneringArtist 07-20-2009 11:42 PM

Thursday 10-5 at North Surrey Rec Centre. I'm going, this might be my chance to get some automotive-related work via Kal-Tire, even though I'm only 17.

I went. Showed up at 10:15 and it took me almost half an hour to get in. The list of employers compared to ones that actually showed up was WAY less than expected. At least I dropped off my resume to Kal-Tire and NAPA, and made off with some free pens and keychains.

In all honesty, this job fair was full of epic fails. An hour to get in, 20 minutes there to discover that most places set up weren't hiring, or directed you to the website for applications. Only a few places were accepting resumes. Also, Primerica was out in force trying to get people into their pyramid scheme of theirs.

Yeah, I felt that I wasted my time, but to get myself out to Kal-Tire and re-exposed to NAPA (whose people there happened to be an HR manager that interviewed me 2 weeks ago), was a chance I couldn't pass up. I don't wanna get caught in retail again unless I'm hocking parts, stocking shelves in grocery stores or working with my hands in a garage.

Dang, missed out on this. Since, it sounds like an epic fail job fair, I don't feel so bad for not going haha.

I personally have only gone to 1 job fair when I was younger but from what I've heard from friends who have always gone it has usually been a waste of time for them. Places not actually hiring or just directing you to their website. They might as well just call it an Information Session rather then a Job Fair but still better then nothing I guess. Just don't go with the expectation of actually getting a job. At least that's how it seems to be.

i think with a lot of the larger organizations, they may have already signed previous contracts to attend the job fairs, which would leave them having to attend regardless of whether or not they were actually hiring.

nbjovo19 07-27-2009 11:23 AM

Hi, I went to this job fair and mistakenly gave my name to aegon aka world financial group and I keep getting pestered by them to come in for an interview but I found out they were conducting a pyramid scheme after searching up there name on revscene and redflagdeals so I am going to stay clear of them.

I also applied for another company called High profile capital management and was wondering if they are a scam as well? As they called for an interview as well. They do the same basic thing as providing families with financial independence. Are all these companies full of bullshit that I met at the job fair? Cause I believe they are all shit.

Carl Johnson 07-27-2009 01:27 PM

High profile capital management?

It definitely sounds very professional for a legit company LOL.

TRDood 07-27-2009 10:52 PM

door to door sales / pyramid sales scam are all over the place. lol

primerica is still around? i though Citigroup would have cut them out already

ShagonWagon 07-31-2009 07:34 AM

FYI....some employers were really hiring at this job fair. Some Companies ran out of job applications within the first 2-3 hours.
