unhook the batt to store or Use TIMER START MODE on Compustar? im going away for about a month. Last time i went for 2 weeks, came back the car won't start//batt died. so got a jump and was ok. so this time im thinking of using TIMER START MODE in compustar. i have a capasitor for Amp. that does pull current... with time start mode, car will start and shut off everday for 15 min.. batt will hold juice for alarm and capasitor. or should i just unhook the batt? but that way alarm goes down (no alarm ) , and maybe ill sill need a jump when i get back. |
If you live with family or someone. Just tell them to run your car every 4-5 days. |
unhook battery |
What type of batt? Optima yellow top? |
if the car is parked in a closed garage the idling thing is quite unpractical and annoying. unhooking a battery sounds a bit more logical. |
Unhook the battery. Starting up the car and letting it idle will not produce enough power from the alternator to properly charge up the battery. |
or get those battery maintainer from CT and keep it connected over the holiday if your car has funky electronics that go wrong if you pull the batt. Disconnect the cap too Michael Jackson's ghost can live without bass if he possesses your car. |
thing is i park outside on the street in downtown....so kinda iffy on no alarm option... car has navi screen, so hope nobody tries to rape my car :S batt is acura.. ill try diconnecting the batt.. just hope i wont have reprogram compustar once i reconnct.... thanks for the input fellows..... |
Park it at a friend's house for a month. Tell him/her to start the car at least once a week. |
Compustar won't need a reprogram from the lack of battery. But remember to have your remote handy when you reconnect it as it immediately goes off by default. |
Two things: - It is illegal to run your car in Vancouver at idle for more than 2 minutes - Simple fix: Grab a $100 solar charger at Canadian Tire and stick it in the back window. Any residual loss will be maintained on a daily basis with a low amp charge from the solar panel. I did this for my old muscle car throughout the winter in a garage with a window and the battery held charge for weeks (and months) at a time. |
where is your car parked? indoors or outdoors? street or private property? if indoors, get a ctek charger, plug it in and forget it. i know everyone is saying disconnect the battery but if you need to leave the alarm on it might not be so good :( i tried using a solar charger once via the ciggy lighter, but then i found out it didn't work because without the ignition on accessory, there is no power to or from the lighter... am i missing something? |
