chopped IMO, but why????

If there is no waves there wont be any ripples.. and the sharp to blurry is caused by the depth of the water changing.. do you not notice that the water goes from light to dark? You can see it in how the shadow actually distorts.. if the bottom of the river/lake was a steady slow decline it wouldnt distort.. but the bottom just drops off at that point which causes it to distort..

i wish the picture was larger/clearer. interesting nonetheless.

shouldnt the boat have some knd of ripples encircling it anyways? did the lady on the boat stand still for an our while the boat remains motionless? there must be some kind of wind as there are ripples everywhere else on that lake.

look at the shadow on the right side, rear. clean and sharp. shouldnt the left match? i dont see any steep drop off that would cause the blurryness.

...the conspiracy continues..

penner2k 07-23-2009 03:10 PM

How can you not see the drop off?
Look on the left side of the pic.. You can see rocks way out.. then look at the right side.. it just goes from rocks to nothing really fast.. Also the shadow actually gets thinner towards the back of the boat which unless it gets deeper wouldnt happen since the boat is over 8 feet wide in the back but only like 3 feet wide tops at the front of the boat with the picklefork.. the shadow is cast on the bottom of the lake.. it gets deeper so it distorts teh shadow.. if you took a picture of yourself standing by a hill you would get the same effect since you dont actually see your whole shadow..
And any ripples you might see would be on the back of the boat since the "waves" are coming towards the back of the boat..

There's actually a lake like that in BC, along the highway from Cache Creek to Lillooet. Get it at the right time of year, and the water does all but disappear under the boats. It's not ALWAYS like that, it requires just the right conditions of calm water and looking from the right angle.

Where's the water line then? the light refracting from the surface of the water onto the ship (the part that's supposedly under) should be less than that of the part above water.

The part under should be darker than that of the above, dirty OR clean water.

i see some port holes i'd like to fill...

For some reason when I think of Croatia the first thing that pops into my head is shithole..

wow man, you have no idea how beautiful that place is and how inaccurate your statement is.
Visit Croatia if you ever get the chance.

Problem is, all most North Americans see of the rest of the world is what they see on the news, and the only time these places make the news is when they're getting bombed out of existence.

Of course, there's far more area to all these places than just the areas getting the shit pounded out of them. Imagine if Vancouver got nuked, sure all of "BC" would look like a shithole to someone watching the news in Croatia...

How come none of the photographers picked up on this sooner?

Google polarizer filters and pictures involving water to see lots of tricks you can do.

Speaking as a photographer, it doesn't look like a polarizer was used. I can't put my finger on why or how, but I've used polarizers on water before, and it gives a certain look... these pics don't have it. They may have used one in some shots to cut reflections, but most of the effect is simply due to the extremely clear water.
