unblockthebridge.ca

http://unblockthebridge.ca/

pretty self explanitory. a nice easy form to fill out to send to our mayor about the burrard st. bridge.

i already filled mine out. all i said was 'please unblock the bridge!'

Hot Karl 07-23-2009 05:04 AM

the internet petition. could you choose a more impotent form of protest?

quasi 07-23-2009 07:21 AM

I don't live in Vancouver but I cross that bridge probably 10 times a week. Maybe it's just because of the time of day I'm there but I don't notice a difference in traffic flow what so ever. That bridge always seems to be light on traffic whenever I cross it which is between 6am-2pm Mon-Friday especially compared to other bridges around the lower mainland.

I'm never downtown for the afternoon rush hour so maybe that's when the problems arise? I'll fill out the petition anyway just because I'm anti hippy and cyclists annoy me with their rules of the road only apply when they benefit me attitude.

dual 07-23-2009 08:40 AM

This petition is stupid. You know what you can do to stop congestion on the bridge? Bike to work.

Vancouver240sx 07-23-2009 08:46 AM

dual, that may be.. but for most people, that isn't an option. Nor does the changes to the bridge make it more accessible to those people who don't currently bike to work.

Not every cyclist is a hippie. I know quite a few people who ride to work and they aren't exactly hippies. They follow the rules of the road and wear reflective gear and helmets. I would ride to work too, but I have no bike storage in my building.

I don't blame Gregor Robertson for trying. He got elected on promises to make Vancouver a 'greener' city. We all know Vancouver is congested and heaven-forbid that someone try an idea, on a temporary basis, to perhaps ease that congestion. It may turn out to be ill-conceived, but that's for the bureaucrats and urban planners to study in a couple of months.

4444 07-23-2009 10:21 AM

i got a fucking email from some Vancouver council office worker spreading major propaganda about how good the system, WTF, i never signed up for a fucking response - i just wanted my voice heard

anyways, i have decided to start an email arguement with her, basically laying out how stupid of a position they have about "more roads = more traffic" and how there are a number of more Pareto efficient options to try first

BNR32_Coupe 07-23-2009 11:00 AM

as much as i hate cyclists for being simple road rule breaking bastards, every biker is 1 less car off the street. i prefer more bikers so i can put the rush back into rush hour traffic

choda 07-23-2009 11:08 AM

fuck you bikers, give me my bridge back

maybe they were bus users before?
either way, you'd need to take A LOT of those '1 cars' off the road to make up for a lost lane

rather than decreasing lanes, we should eliminate parking on major streets like oak/granville/burrard/cambie, at ANY time of the day - there are ample side streets - that would be a green initiative, as it'd cause less traffic jams and ease the flow of traffic

ilvtofu 07-23-2009 11:52 AM

Mine went

Dear city council,
Please remove the bike lane on the Burrard street bridge,
When I have to drop my diseased puppy at the vet on cornwall
He screams in agonizing pain while I wait in traffic

This petition is as stupid as the bike lane.

Actually, I like the bike lane on Burrard street bridge! People should be riding their bikes downtown. unblockthebridge.ca are just a bunch of whiners.

what about those too far away to bike?

Also, just a thought, wouldn't giving traffic better routes and making more room for cars prevent all this pollution because there will be less idling? Just like how you get better mileage driving on the highway.

Do you have any idea how short sighted and ignorant that statement is? If I could bike to work, I'd love to. I happen to drive 200+ kms a day for work. I'm a service tech. Many people travel to downtown vancouver from Surrey, Delta, Richmond, because it's cheaper and faster than transit to get there. You cast such a blanket statement with nothing to back it up. Would it really relieve congestion?

Look at Critical Mass. Nothing but congestion when they flow through. I'm with you on the petition being a little weak, being an internet petition and all, but calling it stupid and laying down a statement like that just shows where your intelligence level really is.

Okay, and what about when the rain and snow comes? How many people will be biking across on a lane which could be used to ease traffic which will be significantly slower?

yvrnycracer 07-25-2009 01:50 PM

We should do a critical mass style protest and drive our cars in the bike lane! See how they like it!
