Maaco Complete Car Paint? So i just saw in my flyers a coupon for half of on complete car paint and prep! I have heard crap about maaco before but damn $650 is cheaper than a set of rims! Is maaco reliable for this sort of job? do they paint all the door sills etc.? How is their bumper painting? Thats on sale too for factory match for only $150 Anyone here have any experience with Maaco? |
I assume they just paint the exterior, no door jams etc. |
Macco paints cars complete - fully assembled. They paint the cars with the bumpers on, headlights in, door handles, etc.... This is how they can offer it for sucha low price. |
hmm so from a foot away, say i want my car black, i'll probably still see a bit of white in the jams? Hmm i went on their website and it says that the signature is their most expensive paintjob? |
I think I may have seen a Maaco job. And it looks pretty good relative to your expectations. A Maaco job will not outcompete and duplicate the looks of a brand new car. I believe $3000+ paintjobs from certified auto body shops try to mimic that result as close as they can possibly get. But say an 15+ yr. old car with very oxidized paint that you just want refreshed, then Maaco will look brilliant. As for completely altering the colour of your car though, I haven't seen a Maaco job to form an opinion specific to that. |
oh well too bad my car already has fairly new paint, I was thinking my mom's smart car, painting both the silver tridion and all the panels, and the panels actually come off really easy, but what colour? |
If you care about your car; you'll stay away from maaco. If this is for your Z31 do your prep work first. Prep works makes the paint job- something that they will not do for that price. |
My old Orange Crx was painted and aparetnly rust fixed at maaco. they oversprayed so much, engine bay, doors jams, mesh on the bumper. They even painted over some of the weather stripping on the windshield and arund the sunroof. rust bubbles started to come pretty soon in the same spot. Pretty much all in all it was an absoloutely shitty paint job. If u look around and check on other forums u can find a good shop that wont overcharge you. I have found a local place that will do very god quality work with basic colors(white black, grey) at $1000 including clearcoat(700 without), $100 extra for each door jam and $100 extra if u want metalic or fancy paint for a medium sized car. |

lol wasn't gonna do it on the Z31, which infact has already been resprayed, used to be dark blue, doors were sprayed, some overspray under the hood but overall it's not too bad Thanks for the quick feedback RS FTW! lol i don't think i'll be going to maaco after all... |
My brother had his Civic go through a full respray with Maaco. The paint job looks perfectly fine. The only issue was that they forgot to fix one dent on the hatch before respraying. Including prep-work and paint, I think he paid $2000. Oh, and yes... they took out the head/tail lights, weather strips, logos, etc etc etc before doing any work. They even took out the doors and hood to paint properly. Maaco tends to get a bad rep from people paying for a $500 "Full spray special" and expecting a $10,000 result. For what you pay, it's perfectly fine. |
^2000 does sound quite reasonable for that job Does size make a difference? (insert sex joke here...) |
You get what you pay for... I've had two cars done at Maaco. The first was my 85 Capri, which was a colour change from brown to black. It was fine, for the $500 it cost me... but the overspray was something else. The second is my current project car, the convertible Cavalier... which cost me $1300 as I took them the car in pieces... but the rear bumper is a different shade on the right side from the quarter panel. And now, 10,000 kms and 2 years later, the front fibreglass bumper is all rock chipped, it looks worse than any other car I've ever seen (though I tend to blame that on the fibreglass more than the Maaco paint). I will not take any car I care about back to Maaco... but if I'm painting to sell or lease return... sure, what the hell. As I said before... you get what you pay for.. and nothing else. |
If you have a crappy beater Maaco does a good enough job. A 'quality' (as in not factory grade) repaint will set you back thousands. I got my old car repainted for approx $3XXX at Automind years ago and it didn't even include the engine bay. |
think taxicab paint quality. |
For the $500 paint job you will need todo it every 6 months. Maaco can do a good job you just need to pay them todo a good 1. |
until when is the promo valid? |
It doesn't really say on the coupon till when, but it says its only at the burnaby one. Their bumper paint says it has a "limited liftetime warranty" i wonder what that means? |

im looking for a cheap paint job on my car.. maybe they might be the answer. |
I saw this coupon too. Too bad the other side was the $26 for 20 pieces of chicken at Church's. Which i used............ To be honest, i wouldn't trust the coupon. $650 for complete paint is tempting but i bet theres always the $xxx for jambs, $xxx for engine bay and etc and that will add up for sure........ |
^yup it also says that vans and trunks will prolly be more $$ |
Maaco is complete crap. They obviously do not do the prep work for the price they are charging you. My friends Toyota Corolla front bumper totally cracked after the first year and started peeling off revealing the old paint. Same thing with the the rear bumper. |
if you want the best bang for buck, prep the car yourself ( cover everything/remove parts, prime the body) then just take it there to be sprayed. |
