need help with purchasing a new reciever

So I'm helping my dad get a new reciever and I was hoping to get some suggestions.

Requirments from my dad:
500$ or less before tax (if its like 600 before tax and its really good throw them my way as well)
HD-DTS
HD-dolby
3 hdmi inputs
Black!!! or atleast a darker colour

Doesn't have to output 1080p video or anything since it'll be going into a 720p tv.

Please and thank you.

IMO, Onkyo = Best bang for the buck
go for the 607 or if you can find a 606 (discontinued) for a decent price...they go on sale often @ NCIX

If you require HDMI video and audio switching, you should do your research...because a lot of the sub-$500 only do video and require a separate optical/coaxial for audio.

I have the Onkyo 607, only had it about a month but it seems to be a really good receiver. I find it alittle to complex for what i need though.

Do you mean that when you plug in an hdmi cable you only get video and for audio you would have to plug in an optical/coaxial cable? If yes, then yeah I've seen that in some sub-500$ receivers. Its not a deal breaker but my dad would prefer it to go through 1 cable only.

The Pioneer I posted that sells for $469 does audio over HDMI. I think all new receivers will do audio over HDMI.

I'm using the Pioneer ELITE version of the Pioneer VSX-1019. Both are very similar in features. It should hit right in your price range.
