Xfactor Detailed: Audi A8L

Got the opportunity of detailing an Audi A8 today. This car is owned by the same person who owns the modded 996 turbo I did yesterday. He left the car over night with me and I started around 11:00am and finished closed 6:30pm. Driving this car was amazing, feels like your driving on a cloud. I have a whole new respect for luxury cars now. The steering was so easy and smooth, all in all Audi did an excellent job with this car. Just right now, definitely not the car I would get...specially not with gas prices now. Anyways here are the products and tools used.
Wash:
- 2 Bucket Method w/ Grit Guards
- Proline Grout Sponge
- Majestic Solutions Super Green Stuff
- Meguiars Gold Class Car Wash

Clay:
- Riccardo Yellow Clay
- Optimum No Rinse Clay Lube Dilution

Wheels/Tires:
- Majestic Solutions Super Green Stuff
- Raceglaze XL Wheel Brush (LIFE SAVER ON THESE RIMS)
- Meguiars Tire Brush
- Old Sponge cut in half
- Michaels Paint Brush
- Gloss-It Signature Tire Gloss

Interior:
- Majestic Solutions Leather & Plastic Cleaner
- Lexol Leather Conditioner
- Finish Kare 108 Dressing
- Finish Kare 316 Fabric Sealant
- Chemical Guys Window Cleaner
- RagShack Window WW
- Wal-Mart MFs
- Autowerkes Exclusive MF Applicator Pads

Engine Bay:
- Majestic Solutions Super Green Stuff
- Finish Kare 108 Dressing
- Autowerkes Exclusive MF Applicator Pads

Metal Polish:
- P21S Polishing Soap

Last Step Protection:
- Bilt Hamber Autobalm
- Black Fire Foam Applicator
- Rag Shack Super Fly Towel

Before I go on with the pictures, I must say I could not have done this detail without my Raceglaze Wheel Brush. My Meguiars Wheel Brush could not have done this good of a job on the rims without taking them off! Now on to the pictures!

Trunk jamb was filthy!

This detail took a lot longer than I imagined. The car was massive though, it was to long to park in the garage. The garage door couldn't even close! Anyways, just thought I would share. Let me know what you think! I tried to document it a bit better than my previous ones. PM if you want a detail!

Thanks for looking, Brendan

Those pics show the shine from the AB, so I don't see a point in doing a close up of a "sun shot" as he didn't correct the paint.

good stuff. i should get that AB and wheel cleaner, along with a soft top protectant off ken

I would definitely recommend it. If you can pop by his shop in person and get him to show you how to use AB. It's really finicky, it can't be topped with anything and it can't be put on time of most other protections. Also you have to apply it REAL thin. Give him a call though, he'll get you set up!

I may be wrong, but i think your definition for a sun shot is wrong. Sun shots are when you reflect the sun off panels to show swirls. What you did was just put the car in the sunlight and took pictures. But again, i may be wrong about what sun shots are.

This is what i think a sun shot is

Before
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v7...139Resized.jpg

After (this shot was taken couple days later, and there is water spots because it rained)
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v7...177Resized.jpg

IMO sun shots are what you have and what I have. I just wasn't doing any paint correction so it was a different type. But you are right.

I'm always detailing now...after these posts. So that was you yesterday. I just finished polishing a G35C this morning. That blacked out one that was in the garage. That cars a nightmare, I used the most aggresive polish/pad combo and it didn't get everything out. But the car looks a ton better. Let me know if theres people that want their cars done:thumbsup:

I never do detailing for free. It's $140/car for what I did to this and the 996 turbo. For paint correction it's $310 for a single stage and $375 for a three stage.

ilvtofu 08-01-2009 08:45 AM

Oo those are some good prices, how much for an X3?
Mine has horrible paint now since it was parked under a tree for 2 months... Really just the exterior, I just need to do a bit of touch up on the front bumper cos of a minor scratch, and desperately needs a clay... but interior is fine/don't really care cos its a lease ;)

you'd have some amazing before and afters though

But the exterior paint desperately needs a polish,
Whats a single stage/three stage?

Single stage should knock out the minor to medium defects, three stage is pretty much compounding, polish, and finishing polish. It'll get rid of pretty much everything. For an X3 it's $315 for one stage and $385 for 3 stage. I won't be able to do it till after the RS meet probably. I'll let you know though, I'm in Kelowna from August 2-9. I'll PM you my price list as well.

Klutch 08-02-2009 06:52 PM

hit me with your price list and contact info.....i got a acura tl that needs detailing!
