My old neighbor owned a really nice 2004 Black BMW X3. I used to watch him wash his car when I was outside doing mine. He would wash it with his dish cleaning rags and once bucket for the whole car, and let it air dry. Not only that, but for the tough spots, he would use his kitchen sponge on the rough side. It gets better, he would keep the bucket on top of the hood, I guess thats a really good spot for the bucket.
Lets hear them, your car washing horrow stories.

someone egged the side of my brand new black civic. So the next day I notice and go to wash it off rinse it off and the egg's stuck on so I use a sponge and soap, well the time I'm done clean I realised that the egg stuck to the sponge and I scratched the whole side of my car. Fuck I was pissed :(

wrong fool...it's very harmful for your paint..dish soap is only used to strip off wax.

just this tuesday i was at the arbutus and 32ndish Chevron, and these mainland lady let her son squeegee the windows and he eventually moved on to the entire car, He couldn't even squeegee the windows.. It was a decent black X5...

I've seen this old asian mother or grandmother washing her son's car I imagine because it was a intergra with some nice wheels with a mop and hose no bucket or soap.

Some people wash their cars with liquid dish soap to remove any old layers of wax and polish prior to a full detail job.

Yup that's what I do to remove old wax before detailing.

not washing But after coming back from a camping trip, my car was covered in dust from an unpaved road. So my friends thought it'd be cool to write/draw shit on it ( dicks, anal, you know...w/e you can think of ). Laughs were had... until i washed the car and realized that all of that was scratched into my clear coat ( black car ).

After one week of driving with dicks all over my car, I finally took 4 hours of my life to hand polish/wax the whole thing.

Kinda glad that happened. Really learned how to do a nice job waxing.

my friend's honda civic was washed with dish soap before he bought so the paint looks really faded on some parts of the car

don't you use claybar to remove the old layers of wax?

Psykopathik 07-27-2009 10:46 AM

i thought clay was used for removing contaminants, like stubborn dirt or bugs and also as a mild abrasive polish.

did anyone else read about the lady using Play-Doh to clay her paint??? LOL!
