AC fan not turning hey guys, while driving i heard some screetching noises from the engine bay area, and i had my AC at max. when i got home, popped the hood and let the car run, i noticed 2 thing. 1) the ac fan 2) the radiator fan( the one near the whittle overflow bottle) none of them were turning. given those, the car did not over heat as i was driving from Byrne Rd. to Surrey. The car is a 95 civic hatch. any ideas on whats up? it seems that the 'system' tries to start (mayb the fans- i dont know) something but it cant and it gives up. cheers! Dak |
fan clutch/ belt |
I'm not really understanding what the problems are. Is it a noise you're looking for, or fans not working? The a/c fan (driver's side) will cycle on and off only when the a/c is turned on. Cooling fan (pass side) will cycle on and off when the engine is running. Turn on when coolant temp is approx 95 C and off around 85 C ? Can't remember the exact numbers |

once i got home i noticed the fans didnt work, how long do i have to keep the engine running to see if the fans work??? i just let it idle for like 30secs after normal operating temperature, and the fan didn't turn on.... |

30secs is probably not enough to see either of those fans turn on. Let it idle @ normal temps, for about 5 mins and you'll probably see at least one of those fans turn on. To guarantee it to turn on, apply throttle to about 2000rpm or 2500rpm, or whatever you want, as long as it's 2000 and above and the fans should come on at least once within a 5 min period (given that you've turned on your a/c, that is the only time the a/c fan will turn on.). |
the radiator fan dosen't turn unless the car think's its necessary to do so - ie: when you are going at 100km/h, the fan turning wouldn't help with cooling since air is already hitting the radiator at a great speed. also, unless you left your car idling (stopped) for some time, the radiator fan also wouldn't need to turn to cool the radiator, as there is not yet enough heat accumulated. |
sorry guys, technical shit is beyond me. how do i get both fans to work while idled? i can do throttle it so its at 2k rpm, but that will only turn on the fan belt ? how do i check the ac fan? |
