u talking about cancelling shaw or novus?? because the whole thread is about shaw being cheaper than novus...

threezero 07-30-2009 12:04 AM

which has a faster basic internet package?

I have been with Shaw/rogers for over 5 yrs. I notice int he recent years since they offer their new "high speed" internet service for extra $10 a month or so, my regular internet was tune down. It was definately a lots slower than before the "high speed" internet service is offer.

I don't care if novus is slightly more expensive but I don't want to continue supporting shaw and their crappy way of doing business. If novus can offer the same speed or even better faster speed for their basic internet package i'm done.

well isnt novus cheaper then shaw in the long run?? the shaw deal is just a promotion.

StylinRed 07-30-2009 12:24 AM

just read novus' site their internet service provides you more

sucks they'll probably never make it out to vancouver, cousin has them in downtown

ToneCapone 07-30-2009 02:20 AM

lol aww novus is mad. fuck that shaw is alite. usually works and if it dosent service calls are free.... they generally easy on credits. i coulnt sqeeze an hd pvr either but they did lower their jhd pvr price from 649 to 449 right now.
as for telus, i heard they got bandwith issues... if u have 2 hd boxes you cant even watch both at the same time.
and their internet speed isnt even half of what shaws is...
btw threezero.... they just gave me an upgrade... low speed to highspeed for 5 bux extra for 3 months. and its basically from 256kbps to 7.5mbps... big difference... milk it

VR6GTI 07-30-2009 07:09 AM

I just got HDbasic for 19.99 for 6 months but they need to have a pre-approved credit card, which is alright by me. I have their cable, internet and phone though so i dont know if that matters.

Novus has already moved into Burnaby. I live in a 2 year old building in Burnaby and it was pre-wired with fibre optical cable. If you live or are going to move into to a new building, it should be pre-wired.

I know that Novus was pretty aggressive in pursuing our strata and with a tidy cash incentive, we let them in. But sadly, those living in houses won't probably ever see Novus because it's simply too expensive for them to expand their fibre optic network in that way.

In the long run, unless Shaw does some major infrastruture upgrades, Novus is a better bet. I'd stick with them.

Presto 07-30-2009 07:50 AM

Shaw trying to move in on Novus territory has been beneficial for everyone in those areas. In downtown Vancouver, Novus was the only game around for awhile, so their prices were set accordingly. Since Shaw has tried to steal customers away, Novus has had to significantly improved their pricing, and offer great deals to keep customers.

You make it sound like they're doing that on purpose. bandwidth is shared amongst everyone, and when you buy their "extreme" high bandwidth service, you're simply buying a bigger slice of the bandwidth pie, while your non-"extreme" bandwidth neighbors will get the leftovers

NOVUS IS OWNED BY TERRY HUI, TERRY HUI OWNS CONCORD PACIFIC
you know the guys who build the majority of generic condos in vancouver?

these guys have been trying to cut out shaw from their buildings for years, it ends up being win for people living in these condos that get super aggressive pricing for shaw services.
 competition = good
but novus isnt in the single house hold businesses

Anjew 07-30-2009 07:32 PM

exactly.... novus is trying to make shaw out to be the evil one, when in fact its just competition. i wish novus was in my building, that way i'd get some sweet competative pricing.

Soundy 07-30-2009 08:07 PM

Not sure how Shaw maintaining their pricing rather than giving in to consumer blackmail constitutes Shaw being a "bully". If anything, people are trying to bully Shaw.

SlySi 07-31-2009 02:40 PM

Shaw is a bully because they are leveraging their regular customers to fund this $10.00 Internet promo. Just to boot Novus out of the competition.
Not all competition is good.

If Novus goes. Downtown is stuck with Telus and Shaw again.
How pathetic would that be?

They are? How? Their bundles are the same price as they were the last time we switched, about a year ago...

jofo 08-02-2009 10:30 AM

I got 6 months free cable/digital plus/hd basic/hd plus + FREE HD PVR for switching from Telus to shaw. They came to my condo lobby and were offering winbacks because our whole building had free telus for one year that just expired.

03aspec 08-02-2009 11:08 AM

this is only available in apartment/condo's only right?

I had that too when i switched from Bell to Shaw. Only catch was I had to bring my original Bell receiver to the Shaw Tower in downtown to get the HD PVR. Fucking parking at Shaw Tower was $6 for HALF AN HOUR. No wonder every level of the parking lot had a Bentley.

Anjew 08-03-2009 01:44 PM

i think theres 2 spots free for customers before you go into tolled area down below

oh my only shaw and telus WHAT WILL WE DO
both shaw and telus now offer 15mbit for cheap
CONCORD PACIFIC/NOVUS are the good guys LOOL

Manic! 08-03-2009 06:48 PM

Shaw is trying to bankrupt Novas. Once Novas shuts down prices will go up.

Frogger 08-06-2009 02:37 PM

So if Peter Bissonnette (Shaw’s president's)quote is TRUTHFUL(from business in Vancouver article) we should all feel ripped off. Peter is quoted as saying "that Shaw’s pricing is not below cost". If this is the case then their mark up is astronomical. After doing the math on this offer, it works out to $24.87/month, after factoring in the 2 months free, for all 3 services from Shaw. Now after this promo is done and you pay their regular rates, you would now be paying around $240.00/month!!!!!! That works out to approximately a 1000% MARK-UP!!!!!!!!
This is what I call GOUGING your customers. I am appalled at this. No company should be allowed to have these kind of mark-ups. This is why they want Novus gone. No competition = 1000% mark-up.

Soundy 08-06-2009 02:44 PM

Depends on how you define "cost"... below cost of what? Running the service? Installing the service? Is that the cost of JUST that service, or is that split up over the entire customer base? Or amortized over the expected life of that customer account? "Not below cost" could mean a lot of things in marketingspeak.

Mr.HappySilp 08-27-2009 06:25 PM

LOL newest deal from SHAW who is in a NOVUS building:
2 month free Full cable(Full HD, Full Digital full anagolo) for 9.95 for 10 months
2 FREE HD PVR TO USE for 1year and u can buy it or 249.99 each after
2 month of free Digital phone and 1000mins free Long distance and 9.95 for 10 months
2 month of free Extreme NET and 9.95 for 10 months

For people who are outsdie of NOVUS service we get a nice price increase starting in Sept(Just look at my bill and my bill is increase by 4 dollars). Currently I am paying Basic cable, chinese channel, Extreme NET and I think 3 cable jacks outlets. Cost me around 92 dollars with with. So with the price increase I am looking at aorund 96 to 98 dollars.

Might switch to telus.

Alatar 08-27-2009 07:06 PM

I just called and asked them if there were any promotions or deals, and if this pamphlet I received on my windshield was a real offer, and they said it was a competitive promotion for specific buildings in certain areas, and that the offer was only available for those areas, not for everyone. I'll be speaking with their customer service tomorrow (callback) about retentions, as I really have no reason to want to stay with Shaw, and Telus is an alternative, since I don't download much and need an HDTV provider anyway.

We'll see how it goes tomorrow.
