Some digital media decks have aux. units for that purpose.... but I am not sure if you want to change the stock deck on your car.

i dont care what some of you say about rear camera's. i love mine, and i use it to judge how far back before my bumper hits anything.

You do realize that laser detectors are useless.. if it tells you that you have been hit with the laser its too late already..
Laser jammers work BUT are illegal.. You'll get more then just a speeding ticket if you get caught using them.

I personally think the rear camera is a really good thing to have...especially with expensive cars, you don't want to scratch your bumper on anything! But I would really have to check if it voids any warranty first.... But I do know that you could easily install a rear camera with a separate small monitor with less hassle than connecting it directly to the navigation in your car....

1exotic, yes the rims are stock, they look nice before they get all greasy! I find myself wanting to wash them at least every other week to keep the shine; is that a typical btw?

I have done a pretty thorough research on this. Yes I do understand that laser detectors are useless. You would need the whole package (including jammers).
Laser/radar detectors are legal in BC, as you said. But contrary to what you think, laser jammers are legal in BC as well. BC is among the only three provinces in Canada where jammers are legal (the other two being Alberta and Saskatchewan). Radar jammers, on the other hand, are illegal nation-wide in both Canada and the US.
It would be nice if some of the members with police background could comment on the use of this devices, but my understanding is that there is no problem merely in using these systems. If someone would want a protection to drive like a mad man, then this won't cut it for them since there is never a %100 protection and there are things like IO Radars that can beat the most sophisticated detectors and jammers.

The rear camera parts are all Nissan OEM (from the Japanese spec). everything will be connected to a port that is hidden somewhere inside the glove compartment; so it will integrate with the car real nice (when you put it in reverse, the camera display pops up, etc.)

The rear-camera package that I am getting also includes video and audio harnesses which you can hook up to your other sources. And that's what I want to use to add a whole bunch of other home-made computerized gadgets -- which is why I want to do the installs myself so that I can handle what I plan to do next!

This is the gray area of the law, technically 'jamming' the signals are illegal, but alot of systems such as the escort 9500 'shift' the signal else where.

Honestly, I would pay a decent audio shop to do the install, if anyone messes up at least you can blame them and have them fix the problem. Did you buy the back up camera package from Adrey? Also it's a misconception that installing a back up camera will void you warranty. It WILL void your warranty if they can find the problem was attributed from the camera. If your engine blows, it is in no way related to your camera, it will be covered under your warranty. However, if for ex. your deck shorts out because of a bad install, then that won't be cover. This is pretty standard from ALL manufactures out there. They have to prove that the aftermarket part is the reason why the part failed.

If you have the OEM parts, I STRONGLY suggest you get a dealer to do it (I doubt the extra "cost" will be any problem to you - seeing that you own this kind of car) It's just a way to avoid voiding the warranty.

I just called my dealer and I should know for sure what the terms for the warranty are. I asked them about the rear camera installation at the time of purchase, and they said there is no problem with that. But I just want to double check and also ask about the detectors before proceeding with this. But I do think what you said makes total sense.

If many of you think doing it myself is risky, do you recommend any audio shop, preferably with experience in laser equipment, who are trustworthy and also flexible? If I take it to the shop, at least I would want to be involved to see how it's done, then I can at least judge whether or not this is something I would want to try later.

I know that regardless of if I owned an expensive vehicle or not, I'd still want to work on it myself. I'm a DIY person and I'd rather tinker on it myself than pay someone else to do it.

On a car like the GT-R, I rather have someone else do the install..This guy amazes me. Buy a car for 110 grand, yet, can't afford to pay for a pro to do an install of this type?

The last thing you would wonna do is being a noob and try to take apart the center console, and other complicated stuff. What are the chances of a noob to fuck it up on the first try? vs payin dimes and pennies to get somebody who does it on a daily basis like consuming food and taking a shit.

I'm an electrical engineer; I may not have run wires in a car before, but I have years of experience dealing with electronics. Plus, this job is not going to require removing the center console. All it is, is running the camera wire (and the detectors) to the glove compartment where Nissan's LCD connection rests.

This is my last attempt in getting "hilarious" people to understand this. Because no matter how many people point out their interest in DIY, some other person is gonna point out the money part as if that is the only reason someone may want to do something himself. Think of it as a hobby, and if you really don't get it, then be it. A watermelon would have understood this by now.

anyhow, it shouldnt be too hard to diy as the laser system doesnt tap into the car's. Just have to find a hot power source to splice into and mount the thing devices and run the wires through. same goes for the rear camera. Unless you want to piggy back it int the built in monitor... then i suggest u do some major research.

although it's a doable and pretty simple project, my advice is, as with all Diy's, expect to mess up and have to dish out money to get it fixed by a shop. There is always a risk when you attempt a diy for the first time going in blind, so if you dont want to take that risk, take it to someone that's done it before or find a reputable shop that will backup their work if THEY fuk up.

if i had a $100,000 + car, the only time i would consider taking it to a shop to modify/fix is either a. when i don't have the time to get it done and i need it done asap, or b. i cannot do it myself. If your mindset about cars matches what you said in your thread, then you're hardly a 'car enthusiast'. U're on the same level as the ricer that spent thousands of dollars to get his civic cosmetically 'pimped out' at the local body shop and rolls down robson with his subs cranked up and the windows down. In fact, maybe thats why revscene suits you so well, 90% of the ppl on here are just like you!
