I was on the bus going home, when I had fallen asleep. Imagine my surprise when it took like 30 min to go from 41st to 51st. At this point I was like the fuckkk, so I got off at 57th and walked down instead.

Who knows?

There were fresh skid marks a meter and a half before the pedestrian walk there @ 61st (there's a pedestrian controlled traffic light) so maybe the light changed and he braked, skidded, weng to his left slightly to avoid a straight rear-ender?

Those big rigs have tons of momentum because of their weight... so it doesn't take a lot of speed to get major damage.
