how reliable are 02 EP?

Can you beat the shit out of the gear box (compare with EK, EG)? is it good gas mileage (compare with EK EG)? Reliable in snow? Need answer from owners, THX!

fairly reliable

I'm lowered 1.4 inches and had a really bad time during last winters snow storm. Other than that, the car is great

Replying a month later.

i had an EG Si hatch, EK DX-SE hatch, and have an EP hatch now.

93 EG SI, it was really reliable.. had it up to 320k and it still had the original clutch. mileage was unbeatable with the 1.6L D16Z6.. full highway, i can get almost 700kms a tank. it was a bit scary coz it didnt have a fuel low light. Engine was really peppy and the car was light and tossable. The hatch is really useful for the window can open by itself and the rear can detach as a 2 piece.

99 EK Special edition. it was efficient as well, but it felt very different from the EG i had. i didnt like the one piece hatch and the SI hatch was no longer offered. i sold this quite quickly.

02 EP, very refined and much more spacious. it has 50k now and all i have done so far are just oil changes and 1 x o2 sensor. in all honda tradition, it has been reliable.. but it is the thirstiest of all. i am lucky if i can pass 500kms on a of fuel for FULL HWY. City is around 350kms. the gears are a bit shorter too, 120kms is over 4000RPM in 5th. acceleration - to be honest, it feels more or less the same as my EG si.. i suppose its the weight and 35hp difference. it has the most features, first civic with heated mirrors. the best thing i like is , NO more TIMING BELTS!

timing chain in EP as well as DC5

DC5s gear does feel a bit short and high rpm when cruising on the hwy. Afterall it is only 5 gears so cant complain much

im surprise u get that kind of milleage

my DC5 Type S gets better millegae than that

30 hwy driving, 70% city
average 500km a tank 50L roughly 600-650 if all hwy cruising at 120km or faster going down the states

maybe your extra gear helps eh?
my best fuel economy is when i had an 00 honda insight.. driving down to the US, i can achieve over 900kms a tank..
