yes I'm aware of the difference, I didn't just blurt out stupidity, I considered the facts that he himself said he can run a few tenths quicker, and also equipment in the near future will get better which will allow him to run faster.

Not to mention his running style as good as it is, he's still so young and it takes years to perfect a sprint stride and it will no doubt take him a few years to reach his full potential.

And to people saying he's the most dominant athlete in the world, I don't agree or disagree but there is a Motocross rider James Stewart who's widely considered by majority of sports experts to be the most dominant athlete today.

They would probably launch a LZR kinda suit for running... That should take Bolt close to sub 9.

I mean, this guy is born to run fast. Look at his legs and body. With some help of the technology of eliminating environmental variables, I don't doubt we would see sub 9 in our lifetime.

dam this guy is fucking quick

bolt is the most dominating athlete of any sport, period.

Nah, there have been others who completely dominate their sport - Schumacher, Senna, Woods, Pele, Phelps, et al.

Just think, 20 years ago, Ben Johnson's steroid-fuelled 9.79 was supposed to be unbeatable.

those that think he will be able to get under 9 seconds should put down the crack. this man is a beast to say the least but under 9 seconds for 100m are you kidding me? 9.4x is possible for bolt.

Even when Bailey set the record in 1996, the Ben Johnson record seemed unbeatable.

You could tell this guy is still getting used to his body. Look at Tyson's form vs Usain's. Once Usain can get his technique and form as good as Tyson's, breaking the 9.5 is a possibility.

As for the comment earlier about making an LZR type of suit, I'm thinking more of the compressions suits that Lebron, Kobe, Iverson, Wade have worn. Supposedly, Fast twitch muscles respond faster when you have those compression suits on.

They already have something similar, but i believe they are banned by the iaaf

and i take issue with phelps vs bolt...the reason phelps has so many golds is because of how similar each of his swimming disciplines are. itd be like introducing a 60m, 150m, 250m, 300m sprint into the olympics..usain wouldve easily won all of those.

If you watch the replay closely you can see that he looked left and right, before crossing the finish line. If he just ran all out and looked straight with good form, he'll be better.
Plus he can also improve on his start too. He's been notorious for having a slow reaction/start. It's crazy to imagine that he can run even faster.

He said that MAYBE he could get into the 9.4's, so only one tenth quicker, not a few tenths.

Equipment? What equipment? They are going to get some shoes with jet propulsion?

You're crazy if you think he has the potential to run 9 flat or under 9. Where in this last race do you think he would have made up over half a second?

It took 40 years for the record to drop 0.33 seconds from 10.02 to 9.69 seconds.

What makes you think that we're going to see it drop from 9.58 to 9.00 in the next few years?

Not going to happen, buddy. Reality check.

He might not have the best reaction times, but we're talking about a few hundredths of a seconds difference at most. And his slow start is because of his size, but his size is also what allows him to get such top speed...

Props! What a big difference to someone who has to fake some injuries to get out of the Olympics!

StylinRed 08-18-2009 04:48 AM

the guy in 2nd wasnt that far behind him.. i was expecting bolt to be way ahead

they were just talking about it on the BBC that Bolts speed was 27.78mph oO the BBC correspondent ran 100m too and did it around 14seconds

ill be more interested when these record breakers are far ahead of the other competitors

Because the guy in 2nd, Tyson Gay, ran the third fastest time in history.

Bolt's speed was approximately 48.25km/h at it's peak... so he could be sprinting alongside your car driving at the speed limit. :p

It's called standard deviation... there will never be one guy that is miles ahead of EVERYONE else... well, Bolt is already "far ahead" of everyone else. He has .13 seconds on everyone else that has ever been on the face of this earth, and that is HUGE.

I watched this on NBC on Sunday. Pretty amazing to witness. It's funny how Maurice Greene was easily forgotten after Bolt came along.
