| SLR Lens Filters - What do you use?
In the market for an Infrared Filter for myself, any of you guys have it? I'd be interested to know your opinions and see some of your shots with it if you can post them here.
Other than that, let's see some shots you have using other filters as well |

Never tried an IR filter. I just use the usual UV, Cir pol and ND filter.

What size? I *think* the 77mm is $100ish. I'm on holidays for the next 2 weeks, so I won't know for sure until then.

the hoya r72 filter in 77mm would probably be like 350CAD + tax retail
i recall that was the price Leo's gave me about a month ago.

Yeah, the Hoyas are stupidly expensive. The Kenkos are the same thing for less.

i was surprised to find out that the b+w IR filter sells for less than the hoya does, while normally the B+W is a lot more than HOYA in terms of other filters.

kinda off topic....
i know senna4ever advocates the excellent quality of the B+W filters. I'm looking for a UV one. Any suggestions? I don't quite understand the difference between all the offerings. I'm open to all suggestions, just thought I should slap on a good filter for my 17-55. thnx

Best bang for the buck would be the Kenko Pro 1D or Hoya HMC. The coatings are a bit better than B+W's regular coating, but nowhere near B+W's MRC coating. They are very hard to clean though. Heliopan and B+W are the easiest filters to clean in my experience, as are Tiffen filters, but they have shitty coatings.

Hoya has it's new "HD" filters out now, too, which compares quite well with the B+W MRC. I've got one on my 24-70, and the coating is very good, as easy to clean as the B+W (unlike previous Hoyas which tended to be "sticky") and it's quite slim as well. I've used exclusively B+W F-Pro MRC's but I wanted to test the Hoya out and it's a good buy!
It's supposed to be tougher to break than regular filter glass, which is interesting.
Here it is on HVStar: http://maxsaver.net/HOYA-77mm-HD-Hig...AR-Filter.aspx

I have the Hoya one and it's cheap and awesome. I think I paid like 75 for a 77mm.

A converted camera will take photos at normal speeds, and you can look through your viewfinder whilst shooting.
