it's really difficult to keep plexiglass roof scratch-free, as it always gets hit by airflow on top at whatever speed you go at.

Also plexiglass does not have the strength to keep the roof from flexing. What you need are Lexan glass made to shape....Even with that you have to make a promise to yourself that you aren't going to go faster than a certain km (easy enough, it's a Fit). A piece of glass made to shape would be the ultimate ballin and correct way to do it. Unlike the glass on a Renault Clio R26R hatch glass a roof panel like that would have to take on the task of tying the chassis together from left and right.

a one off mold of a piece of glass would be really expen......wait who cares just do it.

In modern cars, Webasto is one of the OEM that supplies polycarbonate sunroofs to OE.. eg GM's Trailblazer, C30, MB B200 etc.. pretty much all "panoramic" sunroofs are plastics. (google webasto for the list of OE applications)

They can be long lasting as long as you laminate protective layers on it.

If you want to do it locally.. ask Industrial Paint and Plastic? You will probably need to make negative mold of both the inside and the outside.. and a buck.

I can't see how you can get a VI.. it is not unlike people converting their cars from hard top to convertibles eg old Mercedes SELs etc, or the Red Bull Mini or even motorhomes that are based on Ford/Printer Wagons etc. However there will be a lot of welding involved to add extra bracing to the roof / pillars, because it will flex.

since you're turbo'd, as we all saw at the meet, you're pushing close to 100hp now with 50 ft/Lbs of torque. I think you might have issues with the chassis twisting at those high horsepower levels and would probably shatter the roof even if it was made of kryptonote.

Actually Plexiglass is PolyAcrylate and is MORE scratch resistant then Lexan, which is a Polycarbonate and is more 'shatter resistant' than Plexi - hence it's use on airplanes.

FYI airplanes use Polycarbonates which are the most easily scratchable type, and they fly at 200mph all day long. Airflow does not scratch glass, by the way.

airflow doesn't scratch things, but the rock that's carried by the airflow spiked up from the wheel of the semi ahead will.

planes don't follow planes 6ft from the ground.

Paint scratches FAR more easily than plexiglass or lexan, and I dont see any scratches on my roof other than that created by scratching dirt into it while washing the roof with a soapy brush.

Scratch resistant argument is a red herring anyways.. because if the OP has any brains he will laminate a few protective layers during the molding process.

If you have a roll cage sorta deal on your fit go ahead, would plexiglass be sorta like what the new smarts have? Cause those are pretty tough

I dont know where the video is but they had a guy on a trials bike bouncing on top and it was fine, mind you the smart vertically has a very stiff chassis and can pull off that kinda roof, I don't know how strong the fit is though =/

And on your colour it wouldn't look that diff from the outside so just go for a regular sunroof! It's money not well spent, just vinyl up ur roof and it'll look the same
