Wow, people are still confused.

You don't RECEIVE 2 free games. You GIVE them 2 games that you paid $50+ each for. AND you GIVE them your PS3 that you paid $400-500 + taxes for. AND you GIVE them $50.

In exchange, you get a cheap looking PS3 Slim that retails for half of your old one, offers ZERO new features, and has LESS features than before, depending on which one you are trading in.

Yeah what a deal!

If anyone actually goes through this is out of their mind.. just to get the slim? lol,

I prefer the fat one as it looks nicer with an entertainment unit especially if it's all shiny and shit.... this slim one just doesn't do it for me.......

in that case you might want to talk to that particular store, or just simply return it if you really want a slim that bad.

Personally for me, if noise level is the same, I will definitely go for the fat one

silk 08-27-2009 07:50 AM

The PS3 Slim is:

Smaller
Quieter (by 10db)
Bitstreams lossless audio (it means nothing other than seeing your receiver say "Dolby TrueHD, DTS-HDMA" instead of MPCM,PCM)
uses less energy (45nm chip, etc, etc)
supposedly operates faster (yet to be confirmed but rumored)

doesnt let you install Linux anymore

Trust me, I have been whining about my noisy 40G PS3 since I bought it.

However, there are people who keeps saying that their PS3 is quiet as hell, so I have to assume noise levels tend to be different across the board.

twitchyzero 08-27-2009 08:37 AM

people are getting the deal confused because OP posted wrong info
lol

Mine only made a lot of noise when it couldn't get any air flow to cool itself. Since then, I've removed the doors from my entertainment unit, and the PS3 is barely a whisper.

I can hear the noise through my headphone, playing Blade Runner, for the first 5 mins I thought Ford Harrison was just driving too fast lol

Mine is sitting in the open but 5 mins into a BD movie, the noise arrives.

Which why I was tempted by the deal, until I realize that 40G PS3s do not qualify for the trade.

TOS'd 08-27-2009 09:16 AM

if i was in the market for a ps3 now, should i go for the slim or find a fat one for possibly more.

Fafine 08-27-2009 01:40 PM

tempted to get ps3 but how many of you had a ps3 fuck up on you before or a friend's?

i remember the first xbox360 i got from bb, i went home played for 20mins and it rrod. such an hassle had to bring it back and grab another one off the shelf. the second one didn't rrod though.

none of my friends who have ps3 have had any problems with them

twitchyzero 08-27-2009 09:13 PM

I hope my PS3 will last another 6-7 years so I can get the PS4 Slim.

unit 08-27-2009 09:20 PM

i wonder which games are trade worthy.

yeah this deal kinda blows. for the price of 2 games + $50 i can upgrade my 40GB to like a 500GB... doesnt even make sense for us 40GB owners

ENDGADGET REVIEWS PS3 SLIM as a BD Player http://www.engadget.com/2009/08/27/p...3-slim-review/

Synopsis from blu-ray.com

Quote:

Tech site Engadget has just published an in-depth review of the slim PS3, including its performance as a Blu-ray player. One of the review's findings is that the new PS3 is slightly slower when loading a Blu-ray disc. On the other hand, improvements such as reduced power consumption and lower noise are confirmed.

The Engadget crew was surprised by the slower BD load times. They measured two sets of data: the time between inserting the disc (listening for that last little "click" sound) and having it register in the XMB; and the time it takes to get a non-loading once you click on the disc and actually launch into the movie. Disc recognition time was virtually the same, but actual loading took a few seconds longer on the slim PS3. For example, 'Watchmen' took 27 seconds to show the first disc screen on the slim, versus 23 seconds on the original. The smallest difference recorded was 2 seconds with 'Air Force One', and the largest was 10 seconds with 'The Nightmare before Christmas'.

Power consumption when watching a Blu-ray was drastically reduced. The slim PS3 drew 75 watt during Blu-ray playback, versus 167 watt on the classic 60GB PS3.

The noise levels improved considerably as well. According to the review, the PS3 is up to 10 decibels quieter than the classic 60GB PS3 while watching Blu-ray movies. In their own words, "during the quieter, more suspenseful moments of 'Watchmen', there wasn't any loud whirring noises this time to ruin the mood."

Bitstreaming of Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD was confirmed.

The Bravia Sync feature was also tested, connecting the console directly to a 32-inch BRAVIA L-Series TV via HDMI. The reviewers were able to do some basic tasks like navigate the XMB menu and control video playback, but operation was limited - for example, you can turn off the PS3, but not turn it on.

Engadget also mentions that unlike the classic PS3, the new console doesn't have a physical on/off switch.

SkinnyPupp 08-28-2009 02:31 AM

Since the OP stupidly thinks this is actually a good deal that we should act on right away, and we already have a Slim PS3 thread with the exact same content (including tearing apart this ridiculous "deal"), I am closing this one.
