Where to buy extra wide painters tape ? tape is needed for automotive purposes, going on a road trip need to tape up my car but I can't find any extra wide painters tape, I've been to Home Depot, Benjamin Moore, Lordco and can't locate any. The widest they got is about 2 or 3 inches, I need the extra wide that's about 5 inches. I'm gonna be taping up my front something like this http://www.cafreeman.com/norcalg/hinla/hin%20tape.jpg http://i681.photobucket.com/albums/v...g?t=1243186536 |
sherwin williams? ici on broadway/arbutus? general paint on broadway/arbutus? |
Never seen 5 inch wide painter's tape, whats wrong with the 2.5 inch though? just use more of it! thats what i did, and its easier to curve if its not as wide isn't it? my car is mostly straight edged so i wouldn't know... |
i havent seen 5 inch myself either, i have seen 3 inches. Get the blue one instead of the green it doesnt leave a residue. |
look into DupliColor Shield. |
why exactly are you taping your car? You could always buy a nose bra for your car |
anywhere you can buy paint will be painters tape, 5 inch isnt common so it'll be hard to get a hold of, 3 inch is what you want anyway, easier to shape and controll |
Any proper automotive paint shop should have it.. even try KMS or hot rod shops? |

to avoid rock chip ? |
well he did say he is going on a roadtrip so he is avoiding rock chips |
Dude dont be a puss just use saran warp. |
Please take pics before you go! also write on it with sharpies an encourage drunk girls outside bars to write on it as well. Epic idea. will duplicate next road trip. someone please bring up the Audi thread from a few years back where they covered the entire car in (blue) painters tape and drove from east to west coast with 500 pictures in the thread (thanks) |
3'' is easier to form around the body lines. it won't take long. I taped up a whole front bumper, 2 feet of the hood/fenders and also the wheel arch areas and it only took about an hour. |
I'm going to do this one day .... cause DD in vancouver is about there hahahah |
yea im going on a cross country canada trip and yes i have a custom bumper so i cant use a bra. I just needed a temporary solution, i guess ill just use more of the 3 inch tape and use black gorilla tape over it like the car in the second pic i posted above to make sure the wind doesn't start blowing the painters tape off once i hit the highways at fast speeds. lol, covering the whole car in tape and having people sharpie all over it, neat idea, but i wouldnt wanna risk someone slipping a permanent marker right onto my paint.... I'm definitely gonna try and do something witty maybe the same thing the guy in the other pic has, the Move <---- you guys got any other suggestions something funnier I could do ? found these pics though, this dude went all out http://img75.imageshack.us/img75/8906/img1176do6.jpg http://img75.imageshack.us/img75/1995/img1178oo5.jpg http://img219.imageshack.us/img219/583/img1177qc5.jpg |
Home Depot? |
i bought some 2-3 inch from Canadian tire. I used it for my front lip when it snowed. i admit that it saved my front lip through out last winter |
if you want some blue 2.5 inch i can prob get you a discount. |
^ 2.5? discount? INTERESTED! lol I need some soon |
When you tape go from top to bottom over lapping the tape a bit. If you go bottom to top the wind will rip it off. Also, the 3M brand (blue tape) does not leave any residue and is stronger than the green. Just a couple protips (if you didn't know already hehe). Have a good drive. Now for some pics on the way to the HT meet in Seattle...I taped wrong as you can see lol: http://photos-f.ak.fbcdn.net/photos-...61_7529240.jpg http://photos-g.ak.fbcdn.net/photos-...62_6967529.jpg http://photos-h.ak.fbcdn.net/photos-...63_1903365.jpg |
Pretty sure you can't find 5" blue painter's tape because 3M doesn't even make it. The widest they make is 3" and that's already a bitch to work with on a non-flat surface. |
