Finding that right bed/pillow combination

So lately I've been trying to find the right combination of hardness/softness for my mattress and pillow. The reasoning behind it is because I tend to wake up after a night of rest with both a sore neck and back. Usually after I've done some stretches and started moving around the aches go away. However, lately they've gotten worse and after a trip to my physiotherapist, I've decided to change it up.

Right now I have a medium hardness mattress with a pillow top and my pillow is Tempur-Pedic's Sympony-variant, also in a medium hardness.

My issue is, without having to spend tons of money buying different combinations of hard and soft, how do you determine what's right for you?

go to sleep country, buy a mattress,if it sucks, exchange it within 30 days.

recently purchased the kingsdown calm mattress and I must say, it's a wicked bed to sleep on. Also, try the talalay latex pillows, they're pretty comfortable.

take the ikea quiz - click on mattress guide

Actually, that doesn't tell you much, but I'd be surprised if a Sleep Country sales person won't ask you the same questions and then point you in a direction.

I have that space foam pillow and bed lay and boy does it do wonders. It curves with the contours of your body

It's so hard to find the right combination. I have neck/backaches too from sleeping but it's not really practical to try before you buy multiple mattresses til you find the right one. And that's pretty much impossible with pillows.

Actually Ikea is pretty cool they have a series of pillows that is marked depending on what kind of sleeper you are: back, side etc

I spent a fortune on 2 seperate mattress/boxspring combos and I always wake up with lower back pain. Now I sleep in a cheap ass hotel and im fine in the morning. WTF It makes me angry.

Slightly off topic, but does anyone know what Mattress/Pillows the Four Seasons Hotel uses? :D
