What to look for when using an external flash on another camera brand?

I have a Nikon SB-30 Flash, and I'm wondering if I can use it on my Olympus E-P1. I could't find any information on the voltage that Olympus uses, and while im not 100% sure I believe the SB-30 uses between 4.5-4.6V.

What about the pin issue?

That was a good read thanks. The way I look at it the center pin is fine and the three other small pins do not seem to make contact with the E-P1.

This was the email I got back from Olympus.

The sync voltage is safe, but you will not have TTL metering and will have to shoot
in the manual shooting mode.

Could someone explain what this means? Do I just have to set the ISO on the flash to the equivalent of what i'm shooting with.

It means that you will have to set the power of the flash manually each time the distance between you and the subject changes, keeping in mind the Inverse Square Law.
