Air care question

Do they inspect under the hood?

i.e in the air filter box.

I plan on taking out the air filter as the recent test failed in NOX.

Reading of 1.56 , pass is 1.24.

I did clean the MAF and replaced O2 sensor, but feel that removing the air filter would help as well.

They used to look under the hood of my old Chevy Sprint.. but they've never looked at the engine on any of my cars in the last 6 years or so. Fuel cap, yes... under the car for the cat, yes.

Taking out the air filter isn't going to fix your NOx problem though... nice try.

lol, yeah, I know it won't fix the problem, but I think it may be helpful to an extent. Just in case the repairs/cleaning I did fails.

fill up mohawk and drive highway for an hour.... goto your test and pass.

godwin 08-30-2009 11:43 PM

you expect removing the filter will improve the reading by 17%!? What kind of filter do you have in the first place?

They don't check for existence for air filter.. but I suspect the fumes underneath the hood that you suck in without the intake box will make matters worse.

What kind of car is it?

mohawk = ethanol blends. i believe they burn hotter and tad cleaner thus helping with emissions. problem is not every engine can run ethanol blends, mohawk has a very minute blend though, so its ok.

also try methol hydrate (candian tire)

the helps too i heard.

Yeah, I've heard of adding Methol hydrate in the tank but its one of those last options kind of scenario.

But yeah, I kept my air filter in just in case and guess the cleaning of the MAF helped in giving me the pass.

In addition to driving on the highway for a good 10minutes.

canadian tire sells this stuff called "gaurantee to pass". my friends use it all the time on there beater cars and pass. they also gaurantee to give ur money back if u fail.

falcon 08-31-2009 08:03 PM

I threw 6L of methyl hydrate in a half full tank, leaned out the engine a bit via the CAS and passed with flying colors in my my gts-t. with a gutted cat.

:D
