TV shopping.

Tomorrow I'm going TV shopping. I have a cabinet that is 36.5" wide so that is my max. total width. the hight can be adjusted (with a hammer...)

how big can I fit in this? and which one should I be looking at and where?

I think some models of a 37" will fit this if not all. does anyone make a 36" ? I don't see any in paper catalogs I'm going through right now.

Throw away your cabinet, you'll have way better choice in TVs.
Get TV + TV stand, if you can.

WTF how come some of these TV's don't have S-video inputs...

The 37 samsung and LG don't.

cabinet isn't moving without major room demo and re dry walling..

this TV is for my parents who will be watching regular DVD's and maybe buying an HD cable box.

no gaming and I doubt blueray player any time soon. 37 is plenty for them. the couch is only like 8' back too.

The screen measurement of any TV is a diagonal measurement. For a 37" you're probably only looking at about 30" wide, plus the bezel (I'm too lazy to do the actual math, but it's not difficult). The listed specs for any TV should include the actual dimensions - for example, this 37" Samsung lists as about 36" total width: http://www.bestbuy.ca/catalog/prodde...14&catid=23244

Yea you should be able to fit most 37's. I just measured my 32inch Aquos and it's exactly 31.5 inches wide so looks like and i'm just assuming by Soundy's example and mine here that whatever inch TV your buying, minus 0.5-1 inch and that will be your width give or take. If the Cabinet moving isn't an option definitely go with a 37 :)

johny 09-04-2009 09:54 PM

any comments on the panasonic tcl37s1?

Never assume - check the specs! For a 37" (measured diagonally) 16:9 widescreen LCD, the actual width *of the LCD panel* would be about 32" and the height would be 18". But there's also the bezel around the screen to factor in - some may have speakers built in that add a lot of width; others may be designed for video walls or side-by-side setups and have extremely narrow bezels.

johny 09-04-2009 10:24 PM

the couple specs I checked online were 36.1 - 36.2 for a couple models so very close. I'll deinfatly have a tape meausure in hand before buying.

what's the best way of getting an HDPVR right now? other then they gay downtown apartment deal which I won't get.

lilaznviper 09-04-2009 10:26 PM

the cost of removing the cabinet would probable cost more than the tv.

I wouldn't rush into buying a TV. I would wait for a good deal. Check out redflagdeals.com daily.

Mugen EvOlutioN 09-05-2009 10:26 AM

in that case just get a 32" any LCD than, they arent that expensive

IPS panel gives you better colour reproduction and viewing angles, but doesn't have as good of black levels as VA panels.

johny 09-05-2009 04:37 PM

I have the panasonic and PVR in the living room.... going to open the boxes now. I think the TV was 900 and PVR 360 or somewhere around there from visons. talked down from $1000 / $460

lilaznviper 09-05-2009 05:41 PM

from visions i got a 40" samsung for 1.1k talked down from 1.4k and a hdpvr for 450 talked down from 600 bucks i think

urrh 09-05-2009 05:49 PM

lol and here i was thinking this thread was about buying from infomercials or the shopping channel

Renxo 09-05-2009 07:36 PM

check out
http://www.openboxco.com/

you can get a 37inch for half the price

SHARP 37" WITH 1080 i. $575
SHARP 37" WITH 1080P. $650

beatdownvictim 09-05-2009 09:11 PM

you also need to consider ventilation for your tv

my tv requires 6 inches of clearance on top for it which sucked because i didn't take that into account

visions is easy to negotiate

nabs 09-05-2009 09:14 PM
