where to find the Northern Lights?

Hey guys I know this is probably not the best forum to ask but it gets much more traffic so i'll fire away anyway.

I am interested in finding places where I could possibly see the Northern Lights. I've looked on google and stuff and it's mostly shit I dont understand. I have a friend that is visiting Vancouver in November and I really want to take the friend up to a place to see something spectacular like that.

Preferably if its somewhere close by in BC. Everything I see online points me to the Yukon, and honestly no one goes to Yukon.

Any help is appreciated! Thanks in advance

I remember driving alone Hwy 1 East going to Edmonton late at night. You can see the lights there, I am sure its not the "best" place, but its very clear after you pass Salmon Arm area. It was amazing.

If you go to UBC you can see a giant green laser at night time.

Good enough for me

You cannot see the Northern Lights from here (Vancouver). You see them when you're close to the Alberta border and definitely through the prairies.

We're not far North enough. You'd need Northern BC, BC/Alberta border further north, Yukon, or the Prairies.

I have seen Northern Lights on Vancouver Island, so you dont need to go north, but it might help.

Hey guys thanks for the recommendations!

The friend thats coming is from toronto and she is a girl, so definitely try to take her to see something they have little chance to see from the center of the universe.

I was trying to make this a weekend trip/getaway kind of thing.. is November a good time to see these things? I dont want to drive all the way to kamloops or Vancouver Island and not see anything.

I've seen them twice from here on the island.

Very rare though

You're guaranteed to see them up north like Yellowknife. You'll occasionally see them as far south as Vancouver, but the conditions have to be just right, ie. extremely cold, unusual solar activity.
