Get a real deck! Those OEM units are so antiquated!

haha. see the problem is if I change out the deck, I gotta replace all the speakers, if I change the speakers I'll need to amplify them. I'd have to buy a new overhead dvd player cause the factory one won't be able to hook up to the new deck. I'll lose my door chimes and my steering wheels controls. I'd have to buy another sub and amp cause that's just protocol when you put in a new sweet ass deck from soundsgood.

that's a whole lot of money just for sirius satellite radio

catalin 10-25-2009 09:27 PM

Amen eh!

How about advertising on here and Craigslist for someone that has replaced their factory head unit and they don't mind selling their existing tuner.

^^^^^ True that. Ok, so go to a scrap yard and take the box and wires. Then integrate the wires into your factory harness, install the unit and Bob's your uncle.
How much is it just for the unit with wires & antenna from GM? Does your deck support it?

$350 installed at the dealer that interfaces oem with your deck is a really really good deal.

Especially when they charge $115+ an hour.
Thats like what, 1 hour labor and $225 in parts? Thats really reasonable

my factory deck does support it, and they couldn't give me a price for just the unit when I was there last. I'll try again today since I'm going there for an oil change.

now before someone attacks me for going to the dealership for oil changes, my truck came with an oil change for life package :p

I wouldn't call 350 installed a good price when you can get a sirius tuner for any aftermarket deck for 100

Wouldn't there be just a an extra plug in the back of the unit? Least I would assume so... Try to get the vehicle audio schematics and you'll know for sure.

For a dealer OEM part I think so. Other OEM dealer interfaces from other companies like Honda/Acura Infiniti/Nissan/BMW/Mercedes/Audi/VW are upwards of $500+ just parts alone

point taken, but I'll still feel like I'm flushing my money down the toilet giving it to the dealer :D

thanks for the input fellas I'll check some wreckers when I get a chance

catalin 10-28-2009 11:48 AM

Isn't GM XM only though?

catalin 10-28-2009 12:29 PM

Here's something;

http://shop.sirius.com/edealinv/serv...dParentID=7870

http://www.xm-radio-satellite.com/in...S&Category=501

CrisQo 10-28-2009 04:32 PM

thanks catalin, I never thought of checking there US site. if its the same as a few years ago, you have to use an american address to subscribe and get the american programming.

I'll contact them and sirius canada

boardforum5 10-28-2009 10:46 PM

Go to www.pac-audio.com you can get a upac piece for your vehicle, then the cable, and a sirius scc1c. I just installed this for a client in a 2008 Chevy Silverado and he loves it cuz now he also has ipod plug in.

Even that way your looking at a fair chunk of cash $$

CrisQo 10-28-2009 11:04 PM

that's actually a pretty good solution since I'd have an ipod hookup as well. I could stop plugging my ipod into the overhead monitor and doing the blind reach-around to power on the overhead everytime I turn my truck on, thanks

catalin 10-29-2009 12:43 PM

I was thinking the same Chris, see there's a solution everywhere. :)
