Chinese Restaurant in Richmond

I have some relatives coming up from SF tomorrow, so my family and I are planning to take them out to Richmond for some good ol' chinese food. I know Kirin is pretty good, but we want something different for a change, any good recommendations?

I went to Neptune Sharkfin about a year ago - it wasn't bad, and certainly not that expensive either.

and also
+1 for fisherman's terrace

Went to Kirin in Richmond tonight, service sucked and food wasn't that great.

Disappointing.

bcrdukes 09-10-2009 09:57 PM

So, does your family hate you now? :lol

willystyle 09-10-2009 10:07 PM

Not really, I paid for the meal, but I can see in their eyes that they weren't too pleased.

Felt especially bad for my relatives cause my sis kept hyping how good the food was, what made it even worse was, my aunt and uncle were accustomed to fine dining in Vegas, they usually spend upwards of $600-$700USD per couple for a meal down there, so when I took them to Kirin tonight, the quality of food and service was seriously not up to par of what they were expecting (courtesy of my sibling), so that let to a bit of a let down.

Oh well..

Nothing is worse than having family from out of town come here to have a bad experience with food in Vancouver. :(

Especially when they're Chinese. :lol

Ouch Buddy. Oh well, next time you can try fisherman's terrace. :D

their new location is overpriced. I loved their old place (it was great for eating congee and noodles and whatnot), but honestly, I am staying away from the "high class" route they are going now

vegas food is awful. if that price includes alcohol then i haven't tried it. the meal i had was about $250/person in vegas. autralian lobster, 'crystal' crab, abalone etc. much better food here.

Nope.

ae101 09-13-2009 08:12 PM

u should have went to south ocean restaurant that place never disappoints me for dim sum or dinner

oh & u guys forgot about the famous HKYK (HK Ying KEE), that never disappoints me & when im back in HK i always go & say hi the the original restaurant

BlackZRoadster 09-13-2009 08:18 PM

so you cant really compare kirin with vegas, where they spent 600-700 a couple. If you had spend that much at kirin, im sure the head chef would have cooked it b/c it would mean you are ordering 2 head or 3 head abalone and single bowl sharks fin a person. Plus they would have made sure everything was ok with top notch service (chinese restaurants tend to give the best service to ppl who order the most expensive food)

then you can compare i guess
