500+ HP VW Van http://www.race-taxi.ch/ Race-Taxi is a Swiss project that shows what a few guys with a garage, three donor cars, and lots of spare time and disposable income can do. Step 1: Find a donor van. Bonus points if it's a split window. (1962 model here.) http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_leoGYAeiH4...nal+vw+van.JPG http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_leoGYAeiH4...4Q/s320/03.jpg 2. Find a donor Porsche engine. In this case, it's from a totaled 993 Turbo. Increase horsepower from 408 to over 500. http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_leoGYAeiH4...OQ/s320/09.jpg 3. Find a chassis donor, in this case a Type 2 (T3), or Vanagon here in the States. http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_leoGYAeiH4...yE/s320/07.jpg 4. Remove the body from the chassis. http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_leoGYAeiH4...iE/s320/11.jpg 5. Widen and lengthen the bus by sawing it into quarters. Mate the body to the Porsche engine and T3 chassis. http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_leoGYAeiH4...jY/s320/12.jpg http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_leoGYAeiH4...HI/s320/21.jpg 6. Add a whole bunch of wires, Recaro seats, the Porsche's gauges, and a nifty wooden shift knob. http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_leoGYAeiH4...CY/s320/58.jpg 7. Lots of body work and paint. http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_leoGYAeiH4...zo/s320/34.jpg http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_leoGYAeiH4...U0/s320/42.jpg 8. Almost done. http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_leoGYAeiH4.../race+taxi.jpg http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_leoGYAeiH4...320/vw+bus.jpg 9. Take it to the track and blow the doors off of Imprezas, Elises, and old M3s. |
