Need Help, installing samsung printer on network with different OS's Samsung printer is hooked up to machine with windows 7, drivers installed, works fine. now trying to make this printer available to the network. 2 other machines are on xp, all discoverable via workgroup xp drivers have been installed in the xp machines. now when i try to go add the printer to those machines via network, it asks to download and install the .inf file. the issue is SAMSUNG DOESNT HAVE INF files. or at least i tried to look for them. they come with software that installs the drivers, but i cant locate where the drivers are to select the inf file. so any help would be appreciated. even tried googling. |
Look in C:\WINDOWS\Inf on your XP machines. The XP driver's INF would be there. |
You can add additional drivers on the windows 7 machien. |
dunno how your doing it but this is what i do to share my printer printer is hooked up to my main machine windows 7 my other machines vista,xp,windows7 are in the same network as my main machine all i do is just go to a word doc i want to print and select the printer that is on my network and just click print. when this is happening it auto installs drivers for the printer and it prints |
not when windows 7 wont let u install the drivers because they arent for windows 7! see, samsung only provides you with an exe program that will install the drivers to make the printer work. on the widows 7, the issue is, there are no inf files in there. when i try to share the printer, it asks me to tick off the list for itanium and x86. now when i do that, it asks for location of drivers. on the xp machines, i installed the samsung program, great, but when it comes to adding the printer via network, it asks for the drivers to add, same problem! contact Samsung? |
On the XP machine, when it asks for the .inf file, is there a specific filename it's looking for? EG: if it's looking for 0001.inf, then go to the Win7 machine, hit up Find, and see if you can find the file, then copy it over to the XP machine. |
^ or search *.inf |
do you know how many inf files there ARE?! hahaha contacted samsung, they dont hire very smart ppl. i already told them the printer is installed on my windows 7 machine. their reply "there are no windows 7 drivers for that printer". yet the printer is working already via their WINDOWS 7 64bit DRIVERS... tried searching for inf file. for some reason samsung doesnt use inf's. they use thier own special exe install file. the issue is the drivers are already INSTALLED on the xp machine. its just windows is being gay and asking to find it AGAIN. |
probably a tonne, are they all just massed in some folder? if nothing else uninstall reinstall? |
i gave up for now... samsung argg!!! |
if there's an exe there should be an install folder in windows\program files\samsung (that's what mine's called) - the inf should somewhere in the subfolders usually under 'printer'. otherwise you can find the drivers in the corresponding folders below: 32bit --> c:\windows\system32\spool\drivers\w32x86\3 64bit --> c:\windows\system32\spool\drivers\x64\3 good luck. |
if its an old printer get a new one if its a new printer you just got try to just share it off a crap machine |
You can add additional drivers in Windows 7 for your printer. See the screenshot below of my Windows 7 printer: http://img180.imageshack.us/img180/2402/printers.jpg Just go to your Printers, then right click on the printer, then printer properties and then you should see the screen shot I have above. |
