HELP PICKING OUT PRINTER FOR MAC ASAP
 

Hey guys,

GF has a macbook and would like to have a wireless laser printer. Ive looked at a few online etc, anyone here have recommendations as to which brand/model etc.

Wanting to put printer in closet or something an print from where ever working in the house

this is absolutely the best printer I've ever had the luxury of owning. Its just so incredibly small, compact, and easy to use. And since its a bluetooth wireless printer, all I have is the power cable coming out from the printer, and thats it. Its a real beauty to look at.

The only gripe is, to get the bluetooth connectivity, you have to buy the bluetooth adapter, which sells for about $80 on Amazon. But even the adapter is nice because Canon designed it to be installed within the unit itself where it is completely hidden, so there is no ugly dongle sticking outside the printer. But also, since its a portable, wireless printer, just don't expect the best in terms of speed and quality. The ink tanks are also miniaturized so also don't expect this bad boy to be your workhorse for some company office.

That said though, the wireless functionality of it coupled with its extremely compact size was something that I was really looking for in a wireless printer, and ultimately outweighed its shortcomings.

You could, of course, plug in any normal standard inkjet printer into an airport extreme station via USB and make it a network printer, but you still have two cables running out: The USB, and the power cable. With a bluetooth printer, all you need is its power cable.

The Brother HL-2170W is a solid printer for low volume (<150 pages/month), black and white printing. Cartridges are $50 and are rated for 1500 pages @ 5% (3 cents per page), which is very reasonable. The only downside is if you want to do a fair amount of printing, the drum is only rated for 12,000 prints (and you'd realistically get about 8,000 out of it). At 150 pages/month, though, that still gives you about 4-5 years of printing.

You can usually pick it up for around $100 when it goes on sale.

Thanks to all for the info. I was looking at the HL-2170 saw had sale on at office depot. but on some reviews herd it was a bitch to setup to work wireless. I just have shaw for net without a wireless router. would that cause an issue to have it in closet running wirelessly?

Samsung ML1630W (just prints) or SCX4500W (with scanner/copier) are good printers. I heard not alot of the laser printers on the market supports Mac, and these ones do for sure.
