Got parking ticket through mail today. So I got this parking ticket through the mail today, on a "violation" that happened over 2 weeks ago. Nothing was ever placed on my windshield for notice that I received a ticket. So basically the description says I remained parked in a metered space that dispalyed four flashing zeros. I do remember, I was near broadway and pulled over by a meter. I wasn't even sure what the time display was on the meter, but I never left my car. I admit, I probably wasn't planning to pay because I just had to do a quick 5 min (literally) errand, but because about half a block away, I saw someone checking meters, I decided to drive off. So somehow, I still got a ticket for this... How does this work? The only possible way is if this person remembered my plates as I drove off, and then ran to check the meter to see if it had any time left afterwards. I could have simply be getting money to pay, or maybe pulled over so I can get my phone call and not talk while I drive. I never left my vehicle, so this is bullshit. I honestly cannot remember if I had even turned off my engine (since this happened two weeks ago) but would that be any relevance? |
First time??? Just call them and youll prolly guarantee get a free pass.. |
you may have to dispute it, i did. court ruled in my favor, didn't leave the car just stopped to pick someone up. |

This is my first time with parking ticket from a meter. Not first time getting a parking ticket though. |
Does it have your car's make and model listed on the ticket as well? I got a ticket in the mail from the City of Burnaby once. It had my plates listed on my ticket but it said I drove a Toyota Corolla, when in fact I own a Jetta. I called them in the end and had the officer call me back and apologize. They fucked up and said the girls in the office were supposed to issue a ticket for license plate 305 xxx (the Corolla) and not me 505 xxx. |

But the plates match. |
then just say that's your plate but you were never there? hah. you can always dispute this kind of ticket and end up paying anywhere from 0-25% of the total fine. |
If it's city parking, which it is in your situation. Everyone gets 1 free waive. Just tell them something like "I got there 1 minute late and the lady was just starting to write me the ticket. She told me she couldn't cancel it once she started writing the ticket. So told me to call this number and tell the person that I wanted to use my free waive." Worked for me 3 times, helping different people. |
^^so what is the actual number that we have to call and say this? |
^^ It's on the ticket. Usually the company that ticketed you. It's not a magic special number. |

One piece of advice: Pay it or dispute it (and be prepared to lose and pay.) Don't ignore tickets from the city. It will make your life a living hell and haunt you when you renew your insurance. :) |
