I buy my previously viewed Blu-Rays from Blockbuster. It's a hell of a lot cheaper.

Imagine how much money we've saved from downloading music, movies and games :)

TVB has one of the BIGGEST rental networks.

you will be surprised at the market for TVB drama on DVDs.

Rogers Video are the real bad guys here. It's like $10 for a 1 day new movie rental! No thanks. I'll go to a locally owned place and pay the $4 for it.

Liquid_o2 09-16-2009 01:48 PM

Rogers isn't $10 but it is pretty expensive. Close to $6 for a day I think.

Blockbuster isn't too bad, I think $4 for two nights which is plenty for me.

It's not like I can't download movies, but I like browsing through the store and reading the backs of the boxes to figure out what I want to watch :D

StylinRed 09-16-2009 03:16 PM

i go to blockbuster for blu-ray rentals.. but i hardly ever rent blu-rays specially when anything worthy of watching i buy and something im iffy on i just dl

lots of video rental stores here in maple ridge though, i dont think they're suffering, even a local mom n pop store has been open for a decade plus, they've downsized somewhat but they're still there

q0192837465 09-16-2009 03:51 PM

i didnt know so many ppl r still renting movies. Thought BBV & Rogers should have gone under years ago

u mean more like $5.75 after taxes

exaggerate much?

but hell i think i spend around $50 bux renting movies...god damn rogers/blockbuster. Renting dvds should be more like $2.50 or no more than $3 dollars. FUck DVD costs wat? $$20 dollars after taxes or not even? and charging $5-6 dollars to rent for ONE NIGHT jesus christ.

Fuck even blue rays only costs $20-30 dollar to buy, DVD should be wiped out fairly soon yet they have the balls to charge so much.

willystyle 09-16-2009 04:42 PM

DVDs will stay put for awhile. Most of us haven't made the transition to Blue Ray nor have the TV sets (720p or better) to take advantage of it yet.

hotjoint 09-16-2009 05:09 PM

dvds will always be around because not everyone is into high def. Until another format comes out then people will keep buying normal dvds if they dont give a shit about hi def

StylinRed 09-16-2009 05:16 PM

think about it DVDs have only recently surpassed VHS's and not 2 mins after that Blu-Rays were introduced so its going to be a long time before blu-rays surpass DVDs (although i think they're something like 20% of the way so far so its actually been fairly fast)

anyhow i dont see rental stores disappearing for a long time especially mom and pop rental stores, they'll likely last longer and be more profitable then places like Rogers and Blockbusters

Mugen EvOlutioN 09-16-2009 05:28 PM

thats fine, but the cost of DVD is next to nothing. yet they are over charging people for a simple 1-2 night rental

hotjoint 09-16-2009 05:28 PM

moms and pops stores are making good money because they charge maybe 1/2 of what the retail chains are charging. Big corporations will go down :)

stuff99 09-16-2009 06:45 PM

I still rent. Gotta support watching the movies you love or else it would just die like the HK movie industry.

Isnt it like $7 before taxes? I havent been to rogers in awhile so I guesstimated. But still $4>Rogers

spoon.ek9 09-16-2009 07:17 PM

$4 is greater than Rogers?

Sorry, as I said in my previous post. There's a local place by my house who charge $4 total for a new rental.

spoon.ek9 09-16-2009 07:21 PM

ahh my bad hah. but that's probably a true statement anyways. i'd rather keep $4 in my pocket than go to Rogers.

hotjoint 09-17-2009 11:10 AM

There's this place in delta that charges $3.00 for a new rental or 2 for $5. Used to rent movies there when I was with my ex like 9 years ago :lol
