Uninstalling XP machine

Hi Guys,

Everysince getting rid of a nasty worm my computer hasn't been the same. Crashes etc....I want to uninstall XP and reinstall a different version.

Problem is that computer was preloaded with xp so it doesn't have previous version to go to.

Anyone has tips on how I can remove xp which didn't have a previous OS?

Google will find you a better answer than you will ever get here. This has been asked a million time before. Microsoft.com will have a great set of instructions, that will cover every single detail.

LC21, just use DBAN. It's very useful and recommended when dealing with a virus or worm. Then when re-installing Windows just format the drive regularly. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DBAN

fa48, I don't quite understand what you mean by "previous OS" on an XP-loaded box. I suggest you just move up to Windows 7 by using the ACM deal listed in this section of the forum, Win 7 is a great OS.

I mean I found instructions for uninstalling XP, if I had say installed it to upgrade from WIN 98 or anything else.

In my case my computer was preloaded with XP, so I can't just go into Add or remove programs, and remove XP.

Win 7 looks great, but maybe for my newer computer.

Well, best to do a clean install. Reformat the drive and then re-install Windows, whether XP or Vista or 7.
