The handler and reporter are idiots..anyone who's ever played with a house cat knows when a cat gets a little 'too' into it. Stupid idiots couldn't read the signs, they just kept on playing with him.

The lion wasn't sensing fear aka hesitation, he was being over indulged and he got overly excited..and then they kept playing with him, obviously he's going to want to play back
