webcam recommendations? looking for a webcam for my mom. she wants to use it with her computer to do "online conference meetings" with our 7 year old niece (that's what she calls it :p) overseas. can someone recommend a decent webcam to buy here? my niece uses a logitech webcam, but when i looked up the model number locally, it didn't exist (i'm at work and i don't have the model number with me will post it up when i get home)? |
Honestly any $20-$40 webcam would do.. Does your mom really need to see her neices dimples in her cheeks?? I mean you can go all out and spend $100, but most webcams are pretty good nowadays. If you can buy one from costco and if you dont like it return it... |
what about software support? |

I was also recently in the market for a web cam, after a researching everyday on many different sites I decided to go with the logitech c500, which cost me $40. C500 is packed with an attached 6' USB cable, software CD, instructions and a two year product warranty. Simplicity at its best, the expandable clip easily attaches to my LCD monitor or it can free stand on the desk. I found that the webcam installs perfectly with or without the enclosed Logitech software. Just plug and play. It paired well with both AOL Chat and Google's Gmail "G Chat", Msn etc. I was very impressed by the clarity and sharpness of image transmission. The microphone picks up even the faintest of whispers. The jury is out on the product's RightLight technology. I did not see that much difference in lighting over my older Logitech webcam. The manually operated privacy shutter is a nice add on. Overall for the price and features, I find the Logitech C500 Webcam to be a step up over other internet communication tools in the same category. The C500 delivers on the basics and more. |
hotong: thank you for the recommendation. it was on my short list. where is the best place to buy? |

Well I just checked my suppliers and none of them have it or even have it in their product list.. This product might be too new for me or EOL |

^ i was in the market to get a webcam for my mom as well i went with the microsoft VX3000 ? Bestbuy currently sells it for $40, while futureshop for $57 ?? go to futureshop get a pricematch, after tax it was $42.xx for me installs great with windows 7 give it a try, dont like it? return it :) |
oookay c500 is not available in canada, and i can't find a good deal online in the US right now :( we had a microsoft one at work but it was problematic. not sure why but i would like to try something else... how about a logitech Pro 9000... it's hideously expensive but some of my friends won't shut up about it because they love it so much... yay or nay? |
Bump for this thread.. anything change in the webcam world in the last 5 months? My friend is looking for a recommendation for a web cam.. will probably be used for youtube videos and stuff.. must have semi-decent audio to pick up guitar and vocals i guess.. thanks |

http://www.staples.ca/ENG/Catalog/ca...AffixedCode=WW BTW, Rightlight is mainly useful when it's in a dimly-lit or extremely bright room (i.e. sun coming in from a window). Pro 9000 is an awesome camera ... |
Does anyone have any feed back on the Microsoft LifeCam NX-3000 |
|
until bandwidth improves (for overseas chat) and enough chat programs support 720p or higher, any regular webcam will do. |
I think I have still a brand new in box Logitech webcam at home that eBay gave out for xmas presents one year. It's probably nothing fancy but I know it's logitech. If I still have it you can take it as I will never be using it. |
