Is Win XP SP2 capable of using 4GB of RAM and Core 2 Dou CPU? So I just bought a new computer and install Win Xp SP2. Everything is fine but when I check the system information it only shows 3.5GB of RAM(I have 4GB of RAM install). My friend also said Win Xp isn't capable of deceting Core 2 Cuo CPUS (o_o). Is this true? Do I have to upgrade to Windows Vista or Win XP 64bit. Thank you =D |
to your first question, windows XP is running on 32bit thus you have maximum of 3.5GB that you may use, to make full use of your 4gb, id suggest going for a 64bit OS, in this case Windows 7 since im not a fan of Vista myself you dont have to upgrade, but why not use 64bit? its pretty much better in terms of performance, but the downside is that some programs might not work as they were made for and under 32bit for your C2D question, windows xp is capable of detecting your C2D and use it, no matter if its dual core or quad core |
I started a thread about 32bit vs 64bit and after going 64bit, there is no reason not to use it. Especially if you have new gen hardware. If anything, I would try and get a copy of Win7 from NCIX when it's released. Seriously. |
Thank you! I just got a membership with ACM so I will be going to get the 64bt version of WinXp (Not a big fan of Vista myself) |
^ do not go winxp64 go for windows7 64bit winxp 64 is an abandon project, lol |

and then you ask, how much worse can it get |
4gb or 3.5gb makes not much difference |
Windows XP x64 = Bad Windows Vista x64 = Better Windows 7 x64 = Best Not to mention better dual core optimization as you progress up the different versions. |
