planning on getting an audi a4

as the title states, im planning on getting one (brand new of course). can any a4 owners tell me whats good and whats bad about the a4, so i know what to do when the time comes? thank you.

are you leasing or fiancing?

depends how many years u are keeping the car, if not planning to drive for more than 5 years, leasing is probably ur best bet. Without worrying too much about maintenance since european cars parts and labor are higher than others.

most likely financing, but im most likely going to keep it at 10 years at most.

imo if you can afford to buy a brand new a4 whether through leasing or not, you shouldn't have/want to keep it for more than 5 years.

well audis are known for their electric problems


the 2000 till about 2006 ones i have seen , arent the most reliable vehicle.

so maybe dont set ur goal too high and aim to drive for 10 years for sure. Perhaps look at a shorter term than decide if u ran into any trouble during these period of time. say 3-5 years

BTW Which model are you looking at the basic or the loaded one? The 2.0T is a great powertrain IMO and so is quattro, these are great cars and reliability should be pretty good, since it is more of an improvement over the previous gen rather than a complete overhaul and redesign. Don't quote me on that though LOL

The 2.0T model has decent performance, and nice interior. But I'd go with the S-line quattro full package if you can afford it. That would be a sick car.

At that price pay that little extra to get an S4 LOL

you're looking at ~47000 for an S-line in manual

S4 wouldn't be a premium model but hey, it's still an S4 and will be worth more when it comes to resale, dont know how reliable the supercharged 6 is as opposed to the proven 2.0T

The new 2.0T is chain drive, and is completely different engine from B7 2.0T (belt drive). The old 1.8T had issues with pcv system and oil leaks, and the 2.0T belt drive had quite a few problems as well, new chain drive would probably have some issues down the road as well. If you plan on keeping it long term, make sure you get extended warranty.

^ hence why i suggest prepare for a deeper wallet

either shell out the money up front for exteneded warranty

or prepare more cash on the side just in case all hell breaks lose

if you're gonna spend the money on a Brand NEW A4, get an S4 instead, especially if you're leasing/financing... it would be about $100/month more, but its so much more car. you will have a smile on your face everytime you drive it... and with a chip, you can bump up the output to 430HP in the s4. not too shabby if you ask me

Modern chain drive are more reliable than belts, they self adjusts and require no maintence.. heck my eldest BMW a e36 just passed the 350k km mark.

theres a bunch of options you purchase.

i got the new A4 with Audi Drive select, so essentially i can have it drive like a lexus or drive like a bmw. not too important if you're just driving between home and school/work and stuck in traffic all the time.

tech package: if you want bluetooth (so everyone in the car can hear you your friend is saying) and parking sensor, and all the other gadgets, then this one is for you

more spacious and comfortable than bmw / lexus

The guy is shelling out close to 50k if not more, I'm pretty sure minor issues won't be too damaging to his wallet, although it is annoying if the car was anything like my family's old W203 C240 LOL must've been at the dealer at least 5 times a year

It's not the belt that was the problem, it's everything else that's on the engine. Sludge problem on the 1.8T due to the PCV system, PCV valve and fuel system issues (cam drive fuel pump) on the 2.0T, recall on the Intake manifold for the chain drive 2.0T for the early production engines, etc.

i had a 2.0t b7 a4 since 2006 when they just came out. valve cover gasket broke twice, coils were busted, pcv was busted, dv was busted, and the car made an unknown high piteched whine (like a supercharger) at high rpms. i'm not sure i want another first year turbo car from audi. i think you should give that a thought too lol
