I thought i read or heard that OEM manual trans fluid was synthetic. I searched letters and bulletins from Honda, but couldn't find anything about the fluid being synthetic.
Honda's used to use engine oil as manual trans oil. Honda Genuine MTF first came out around 1996. I remember it did fix a "moaning" noise from some of the trans/diff's during turns. Before that fluid came out, we were suggested to use ATF to solve that problem. The Honda Genuine MTF was improved in 06/07. Said to offer better overall shift quality in cold weather (especially in freezing temps), and better friction reduction for improved fuel economy longer trans service life

i dont know, now winter is here...during cold start mine is starting to feel notchy only in 3rd gear

time to flush it again, its been roughly about 7000km since the lsat time it flushed

my 3rd gear has never popped out...just that damn 2nd gear..I talked to honda the other day and im going to take it in to see what they can do about it. chances are its going to be "my driving". So no one else here has experienced this problem i take it.

spoke to my buddy with 05 G35 coupe 6 speed

apparently he is on his 2nd tranny


he said he fucking hates 350z/g35 tranny

compare to hondas, ours actually shift like butter

his 4th gear and 5th gear grinds

I don't drive an Si, but my 2nd gear grinds sometimes when it's cold during fall/winter. Once it's warmed up it's fine.

I'm glad I wasn't the only one who thought the same thing after I read the first post.

Given the fact it is a newer car, is it still under warrenty? I would find out, that way you might be off the hook for any repairs.

3rd gear is fine - 2nd gear is the only shitty one.

would frequently flushing the tranny oil help?

Just take it in, don't make assumptions. Then report back your findings.

fuck...today when i downshifted from 4 to 3...it seemed like it was in...then it grinded like a bitch when i let go of the clutch

problem is tat honda denies it, no warranty will cover

because by the time u drive to the dealership ur car is well warmed up, so when they test drove they will give u a WTF kind of crack are u on look


if u park at the dealership overnight, and tell them to drive it instantly while the car is ice cold than u might have a chance. Than even that they might say u cant drive worht shit.


My friends 04 G35C 6 speed as i mentioned 2nd time after the tranny swap it still grinds at times. WHen he showed to the mechanic at the dealership they told him he cant drive shit, its the way he is driving.

press clutch all the way in, shift into gear, give gas....let go clutch....how hard can it be

It doesn't happen all the time so it's all good. The Si shifter feels like butter the other 99% of the time.
