airbox sensor on BMW e36??
 

There's a sensor on the air box of my BMW E36 which connects to 2 small coolant hoses. while i was installing a new air filter the nipples on both those coolant hoses snapped (stupid thermoplastics) and gushed out my coolant. I want to know what kind of sensor that is and what its called. I tried calling BMW parts asking about this sensor and they cant pinpoint which one it is exactly. Some forums say you can just loop the hoses with a connector since most ppl do that when installing aftermarket air filter.
If anyone is experienced with E36s and know exactly what im talking about, please help me out.

Are you talking about the MAF? You might want to take some pictures. I think the airbox is not connected to coolant hoses, they are in fact vacuum hoses.

I looked at mine since I was cleaning stuff around it, you are talking about the ones that are underneath towards the bottom of the airbox?

That's the auxiliary thermostat, if you have the ETK it is under diagram 11_1142 cooling system water hoses.

If you order from any dealer quote them the part number 13 54 1 730 682
You will also need the O ring (you mind as well replace it) 13 54 1 735 380

thank you for that awesome fast reply. might i ask if its possible to just not have this? im wondering what people even do with this when they install aftermarket cold air intakes or ram air intakes that dont have any place to mount this sensor.

AFAIK the line decides whether or not to heat the throttle body.. if you just loop it back, it will heat the throttle body constantly.. hence it defeats the primary purpose of a CAI.

ok, well here's my new problem. I currently cannot drive my car cuz it will just keep spitting out coolant. I need this part but problem is dealership parts center are closed on sundays. i have work tomorrow morning. are there any other places i can get this part? i tried lordco and they dont have it.

I don't think any BMW specific places are open on Sunday. The best you can do is do a loop back for now.. Really not recommended way get a calipar and measure the width of the tube.. go to any home garden place for a dripper hose attachment.

You would have to stop by BMW to pick up their coolant anyways, because you never know if any plastic bits have contaminated the cooling system.. last thing you want is things get stuck in the water pump.

There are a few shop owners who hangs out at BCBimmers.. you might want to ask "Son of Lars"/ Al, Poon, or TheEuroShop... they might be at the shop on Sundays.

I think you might want to look for places like Bimmerparts for the thermostat, because I am pretty sure a lot of people get rid of them without knowing what it is for.
