MS Security Essentials - Free

Just a heads up that Microsoft released their free antivirus/spyware program today. http://www.microsoft.com/SECURITY_ESSENTIALS/

From the reviews, it looks like it has pretty good detection rates and uses little resources. It does a validation check on Windows so if you're using a pirated version you might not be able to install this.

So it finally got released to the public.
I used it during BETA and was quite pleased with it.
Lightweight and both spyware and AV which is meant to replace Windows Defender (and OneCare).
I bought KIS2010, so no need. MSE is a good alternative to AVG and Avira. I believe it doesn't have an email scanner though.

OneCare SUCKS.

I've never used OneCare but every review I've seen for MSE has been quite positive.

Check out AV Comparatives. They're an independent testing source for AV products. The link is for their August review. One Care rates as just average. (which I'm assuming the Security Essentials product is based upon)

It's certainly better than nothing but there are a lot of free AV's out there that are just as good or better.
