Anyone renting their houses during 2010?

My dad's friend rented his house out in the West End during the olympics for $20,000 and now I heard on Bill Good that people in Port Moody are getting up to $25,000 a month during February.

Anyone done this yet? There's a bunch of different sites set up...any recommendations for which sites are best?

q0192837465 10-02-2009 12:58 PM

the government is looking at those sites closely to make sure u pay taxes on ur rent income. Make sure ur dad's frd doesnt do those under table shady transactions cuz the CRA is gonna hunt him down if he does

HonestTea 10-02-2009 04:55 PM

WTF?! All the way out in Port Moody? That's insane..since it's pretty far from most Olympic venues..

sh0n 10-03-2009 03:08 AM

Anyone else or know of anyone else that has success stories?

Mind you 20K to rent a house out in the west-end is pretty steep.

Can't imagine what kind of client / die hard Olympic fan tenant your friend's family has there

my buddy is renting out his downtown stuidio for 5k, just for 3 weeks.

its ridiculous what the olympics demand is doing on rental prices... my buddy suggested i rent out my home, because its within a 20 min drive to downtown, but 1) i dont want some strangers staying in my home 2) I dont want to bother emptying out all my perosnal stuff and 3) i dont want to move in with my parents during that time...

i'm soooo gonna rent out my house. Moving my personal stuff is a small price to pay for 10k

skyxx 10-09-2009 12:13 PM

It'll only rent if it's some hot European chicks. If they can't pay the rent then they can do it "Mike's apartment" style. :lol

speaking of renting,

$600 Nudist Looking for an apartment

Hello,

I am looking for a place that is quiet and has internet. I work full time at a large printing company on a swing shift so could be sleeping during the day or night.
I am also a nudist so I would like to find someone (preferrably a female only because they are cleaner) who is not offended with nudity.

Anyone interested please send me an email. thanks for reading my post :)

Notice a lot of the stories are "friend of a friend of a friend".. all anecdotes.

I won't worry about CRA.. I am more worried about the insurance companies AND/OR if the renter decides to squat.

You better make sure, you have huge damage deposit and really clear out your house.

Mr.HappySilp 10-09-2009 06:31 PM

Any hot Female toruist can stay at my room for free during that month assuming they are into kinky stuff with me =D

Durrann1984 10-25-2009 12:53 PM

anyone reporting their rent income to CRA?

quasi 10-25-2009 12:57 PM

If you are getting 10K+ for your place I think it's fair to say that the people staying there are probably going to be decent tenants. It's not like your renting to some welfare bum who's going to pay first month, squat for 3-6 months then trash your place when their finally forced out.

I really want to see who's man enough to actually do this and know what to do to not get burnt afterwards. I've been in prop mgmt so i've seen the bad and the ugly side of things.

Those who are coming are usually rich people already because attending Olympics is not a cheap event. If you're a punk, good luck trying to sound professional renting out to a family of 5 from Europe when you respond your emails like "yeah, i have a dope place to rent, it's close to sky train and reallly cool, lol"

There are deposits you have to take before they come, there are contracts you have to sign, there are emergencies phone numbers you "SHOULD" provide in case your pipes bursts or if the garage door doesn't work at your apartment etc. (Check your property mgmt as they might have banned the owners from rentals)

Just an example: What if they leave 3 days before the end of the contract and they trash you place? You need compensation for this and no, having their CC is not going to help cause how are you going to bill them? what if they take your plasma tv, break your fridge?

If someone got high, breaks a window, bleeds himself, calls the cop, file a report, your apartment manager comes up and sees you rented the place out. BAM, you'll be slapped with a fine and insurance will not pay out this 2 million dollar insurance for future income of this olympian for his future years.. etc.. again, HIGHLY unlikely but hey, you're in America... gotta protect yourself right?

Last thing, what if he doesn't leave after 3 weeks. You have to go thru court and NO you can't call the cops to throw him out.

On the opposite end: How do you prove the apartment is yours? You could be renting your buddy's place and next thing you know, you call the cops saying you have 5 foreigners in your house and take my 20K?

just my 2 cents, but definitely keep that in mind.

just recently renewed house insurance, one of the questions the broker asked was if we were planning on renting out for the olympics.

so yes, if something happens, u better make sure ur insurance policy covers it.

6793026 brings up very valid points. Although if you're going to charge somebody $5k for 3 weeks, there's very little chance that something goes awry but in the heat of circumstances, you could be caught off-guard any moment and your house turns into a hell hole.

My friend rented his apartment house for 10k for a month, in downtown, about 800 sq ft, 2 bedroom.
