Any tips for dealing with ICBC

My brother got hit last night, the cars a complete writeoff (the back half of the car is essentially gone).

While we was turning left someone went to pass him on a double yellow and hit just behind the drivers side door. The other driver then proceeded to drive off (they think they found the truck a few KM away, and think they've found the driver as well, though the police havent given us any concrete info yet, obviously).

He got pretty lucky, if the truck had hit a foot further forward it would have caved in his door 3-4 feet instead of the cargo area of the car (and lucky there were no sparks, as it tore open the gas tank and covered him and his passenger in gas). He did a nice job of breaking his door glass with his head too.

Anyways, are there any steps he can take to make dealing with ICBC for the injury claim and vehicle value easier?

I know not to settle on the injury claim right away but thats about it. He was already super stiff/barely able to move last night right after it happened, so I imagine he's going to be in a world of hurt

I just ordered "Auto Accident Survivor's Guide for British Columbia" upon skidmarks advice in another thread I dug up, so hopefully that will have some helpful info. Hopefully no more injuries manifest considering him and his passenger were already showing some pretty good symptoms of head, neck and back injuries prettymuch right of the bat.

The car got tossed 35-40 feet down the road on a path perpendicular to the path they were travelling pre-impact, with chunks of the car (like the rear bumper) closer to 100 feet down the road. small barely moving car vs high speed big truck is bad news bears

There are many, many, many threads on RS with tips for dealing with ICBC. Take them all with a grain of salt though..

Here's a thread I contributed to a while back: http://www.revscene.net/forums/icbc-....html?t=514658

All I can really say is... document EVERYTHING! Dates, times, pain level, medications, etc..

Yeah I've sifted through a few pages of search results already, figured I'd try and make a more concise thread since most of the other ones I've come accross mostly just turn into people bickering about who's at fault or whats going to happen to their insurance rates.

I don't have anything much to say but I hope your brother and his passenger aren't too hurt and that they recover soon (unless you want to milk icbc/the other driver hah)!

Heres some pics of the damage, apparently the car just barely missed a telephone pole which would have stopped them in their path of travel about 30 feet sooner. Makes me wanna go and buy a volvo or something (I drive the same model/year car). Apparently it was an s10 that did the damage

Stevo, I have nothing to add other than to say that I sincerely hope that your bro and passenger come out of this okay. That is one nasty accident and one idiotic fothermucker in the other vehicle.

Wow! I hope your brother and his passenger a full recovery. That looks really bad. You might want to get a lawyer too and fight ICBC if you perceive any settlement they try to give you as being unfair.

I hope your brother recovers well from the accident, and best of luck dealing with icbc. I don't know if you remember me, but I had lunch with you in coquitlam when we were both getting installs out at soundsgood.

Thanks for the good wishes guys. I imagine they'll both be lawyering up and not settling for a LONG time considering how bashed up and sore they both are already.
CrisQo I remember you indeed, sweedish meatballs

Your brother is lucky he walked away from that one. My advice would be to get a lawyer who deals specifically with ICBC injuries. They are over-priced but know the system inside and out and would probably get you a lot more money than you would on your own.
