STOCK IS250 Front Tires Rubbing...
 

Hi Guys,

I have a 2006 IS250 (RWD) with the Sport Package wheels fronts are 225/40/18 rears 255/40/18

Last year I picked up a new set of 2008 IS250 AWD wheels for the winter, and they worked out to be great.

Last week I put the AWD wheels back on for this season and both fronts are rubbing when I turn the wheel to a certain angle this is about a 1mm space between the tire and innner wheel well, and I am sure it rubs there when I am turing at that certain angle and hit a bump or something there is a small wear mark there also right where the outter edge of the tire rubs and this goes for both sides...any ideas?

I know that I am not running the tires that came on the car but they are still OEM Lexus rims and rubber (Bridgeston Potenza 225/45/17)

The picture is below, My car is stock height...I have read on Club Lexus to use a heat gun and melt the area where it rubs since it is a common issue with after market wheels...but even with stock rims and rubber???

Well if they say so..... I'm guessing they've dealt with it several times over.

If you need to know why, start researching the stock wheel dimensions of the 2wd vs. AWD, then see if they use a different fender liner between the two.

The fender liner's are identical..I checkedout a AWD yesturday I think they sit higher, but the thing that boggles me is that last year with the same rims and rubber did not rub at all..wierd..

it may be the offset and width of the tires.

i know the stock 18s on the is350 are staggered i think they were 18x8 fronts and 18x8.5 rears.

i assume the same for the is250, but the is250 awd should have same wheel front and back.

did you lower ur car? fender liner issues always come into play when u lower ur car and run different sizing wheels. also was ur suspension changed? maybe need an alignment? though it shouldnt be running that close to the fender.

is250 is 225/45/17 & 245/45/17
is250 awd is 2245/45/17 all around
is350 is 225/40/18 & 255/40/18

My car came with the sports pack - 225/40/18 Fronts and 255/40/18 Rear
but those wer strictly summer tires so I grabbed a set of AWD wheels which are 225/45/17 all around

The car is bone stock never touched the suspension or anything..the 18's never rubber and these 17's did not rub last year im thinking of rotating the wheels the wheels that are on the front were on the rear last year, but that shouldn't make a difference the the wheels are the same size....

I was going to say suspension sag or something but that's just odd.

your overall rolling diameter went up an inch with the 17's. taller sidewall tire. your speedometer is also off.

nope, tire size recalibrated with a larger side wall for the 17s, the sizing is right.

the only thing left is suspension change. maybe you hit something and the fender liner got knocked out thus the rubbing.

That could be it, I will check this after work today.
