I spent a tonne of money on aftermarket shit for my cars. Maybe I can afford a chauffeur.;)

That gave me an Idea. But it looks stupid for me to hire a chauffeur driving my GTI. :lol

Generally, yes. But in the case of vacuum cleaners? I doubt it. I'm not comparing a $50 vacuum bought at a liquidation store to a $200 cleaner bought at Sears. I am more thinking of the idiots who spend like $1500 just because they think they are getting "the best".

And all I am doing is LOLing at them. People get so offended by such trivial things. I just think it's funny is all. :lol

You specifically mentioned Dyson in your LOL, but you can get a Dyson for like $300... seems like a bit of a contradiction there.

I wouldn't LOL at anyone for buying a $300 vacuum cleaner. Just the idea of buying a vacuum cleaner because of brand and high price.

But you already knew that, so I don't know why you bothered to write that...

Well, not that I really feel a need to defend my decision to buy a Dyson a couple months ago when I was shopping for a new vacuum, but it definitely wasn't because of the brand name and price. It was because I wanted a vacuum that works well and is reliable, and from my research, Dysons seemed to fit the bill. It cost me $369 plus tax. How much better is this compared to a $100 or $200 vacuum? I don't know, but from what I read, it should be better. What I do know is that it blows my crappy old $50 vacuum away in terms of what it pulls out of the carpets.

SkinnyPupp 10-17-2009 05:42 AM

Yup that makes sense. I think I spent about $200 on a Samsung vacuum. I can't imagine vacuums being much better than this one.. It does what it's supposed to, and I am happy.

Actually most of my appliances are Samsung, they have all been good and have the best warranties.

Bump. Just came across this video. :p

This is why he calls it a multiplier - the creation of the vacuum multiplies the air velocity caused by the in-base fan to a multiple of 16x.

this "multiplier" thing is such bullshit...it is funny how he says the fan moves "hundreds of gallons of air per minute", instead of just giving you a CFM rating like every other fans manufacturer do.
I am sure if you convert its "hundreds of gallons per minute" to CFM, the fan isn't any more efficient or stronger than any regular fan out there.

Small fan blade + fast RPM probably means noisy as well too.

q0192837465 08-18-2010 03:12 PM

^ it's not really a fan per say. He said that it'll feel more like a breeze. I think it's useless but for argument sake it is not a fan as we know it.

A 100 gallons is 13.4 CFM. so if its moving 300 GPM its moving 40.2 CFM

So it moves less air than a $10 120 mm case fan. It moves 47 CFM

I call Dyson fail.

well worth my 2min 7sec

woob 08-18-2010 05:26 PM

Semantics, I know, but it's not a fan. It's an impeller.

misteranswer 08-18-2010 05:57 PM

For $300, this better damn well be the best fan man will ever make.

woob 08-18-2010 06:01 PM

tbh, it seems more like an engineering exercise than a true consumer product.

bcedhk 08-18-2010 06:32 PM

miele vaccums is way better. built quality is 1000% better than the plastic junk that dyson makes. our dyson vaccum at work broke after 5 months of use.

^ look up 10 post

CP.AR 08-18-2010 10:26 PM

that fan is freaking bullshit.

I bought it. tried it.. went "meh" just got :trolled:.

returned it and returned to my "fan" fan... none of this bullshit "fanless" fan.

SkinnyPupp 08-18-2010 10:37 PM

You don't even have to see it in person to know it's bullshit. It just moves the fan to the base. There's still a fan, it just gets distributed differently. It's still loud (probably louder than most normal fans) so what's the point? To get rid of BUFFETING? OMG BUFFETING

jackmeister 08-18-2010 10:58 PM

do they sell it here?

Yup! Miele is pretty much top of the line, but also costs much more than Dysons! There is a test on youtube by a dude using a particle counter, and he runs a Dyson and a Miele -- the advantage of the Miele is that its exhaust had something like 42 particles per 1000, whereas the Dyson was at like 300 or something much higher.

The other argument however, is that it remains unclear as to the suction power of the Miele as (when I last researched), they still ran on filter bags.

EDIT: Actually not much more; Dysons cost about $350 CAD, and I found some Mieles that go for about the same!

AzNightmare 08-18-2010 11:10 PM

LOL, who bumped this old thread. Thought it was new news until I looked at the date.

But yeah... I don't have any problems with a normal fan...

This thing sounds loud, cause of the small fan it uses.
Smaller fan = higher rpm = louder

Gt-R R34 08-18-2010 11:49 PM

this thread....makes me want to go research on vaccums.

One of the best vacuums out there are the Rainbow vacuums. They use a water based filtration system and it's absolutely amazing. Super powerful, built like a tank. My parents bought one due to my mom's bad allergies, and it's really helped. It's a bit of a pain overall to use because you have to empty the water tank after every use, but the bloody thing rocks. The one big problem is that it costs $2500 - which is why we haven't bought one yet, and we just go borrow it from them once in a while.

Paper or fibre filter based vacuums need to have the filter replaced often, and the efficiency of the filter plummets after about 15 minutes of use, but water based filters operate at maximum efficiency all the time.

achiam 08-19-2010 02:02 AM

This guy did a test on the Rainbow and a Miele! Not sure how accurate it is!
