too chicken to do it myself...right now the calipers are smooth glossy black and i don't want to mess that up.

called Ak autoworks and they don't want to do it.

If you want the whole factory paint look, it will cost you a shiny penny.

need to remove all 4 calipers, paint with high temp paint, and reinstall, refill brake fluid. This is the only way to make it 100% factory looking.

its approx $800 of material and labour right there.

or just spend $50 and brush on high temp paint on it yourself.

When I took my car to MFRT to get something done, they had a customer who had a XC90 with some sort of sport package made by Heico. (which i never heard of before, and apparently they are a volvo tuner)
The guy at MF was just finished painting the Heico brake calipers on that XC90 when I walked in.

You can try them?

that's about the price i got to refinish a set of porsche calipers too, and that includes stripping the original finish, but not re/re the pistons/seals.

Who would pay that much for painted calipers? Not that hard to remove calipers, take them off and take them down to a shop and get them sprayed.

Mephology 10-14-2009 04:42 PM

800 bucks? c'mon, put that money towards something else. plz...

Alex@advmotors 10-14-2009 05:10 PM

We can do it,

OP has PM!

yellowpower 10-14-2009 05:18 PM

800? Dont do it bro..

Jackygor 10-14-2009 06:05 PM

not for 800 bucks...can't you just take it off and send it to a powder coating shop?

powdercoaters will charge less (my vague recollection was $200-300/pr), but many of the shops i had asked at the time required that i break the calipers down (ie. pull the pistons/seals) and get them media blasted on my own.

in my case, i had a total of 12 pistons and seals to re/re, which was expensive because of the stupid porsche markups on the rebuild kit :(

MF is just MF lol or MFRT, i think they are an RS sponsor

BTW is that xc90 the red one? There's sometimes a fire red xc90 a block from where I live, I think it's got the V8 too

AzNightmare 10-14-2009 07:08 PM

If you do take off brakes, make sure you know what you're doing.
That's the one thing in a car you don't want to install back on improperly.

Nope it was a black XC90 V8 with Heico body kit, brakes, wheels, springs, the whole lot. It was NEW too, still had the new car smell. Apparently it was also a demo car so the owner got it for CHEAP.

The shop's name is MFRT, on Marine Dr and Laurel in Vancouver, where that Mcd is.
