well it was all pre-WW2, they were just in the middle of assembling the regime, nothing overly evil had happened yet, but they all kind of knew of their growing power

Clearly everyone else wasn't paying enough attention in school. What could help them? Concentration camps maybe?

My god, look at the hops on that dude. He did the high jump the complete opposite of what people regard as the ideal technique today.

What's so controversial about the exhibit? I find the Nazis incredibly interesting.

Olympics, where a bunch of fucked up human beings compete against other fucked up human beings in an attempt to prove to other stupid human beings that "their" human beings are better than the rest of the worlds human beings.

Humans are just grown up babies with fucked up ideals they're filled with pride and prejudice and create imaginary borders that don't really exist so that they can identify them selves with something other than what they really are.. a bunch of shit heads just like everyone else... and then they start wars because they're greedy and are quite possibly all a product of incestious inbreeding.

The cycle never ends because the parents instill these false ideals into their offspring which of course will continue to happen and we'll all keep killing each other until one day the inevitable happens and they all just kill one another and die because they're all a bunch of sheep who deserve nothing less than a painful nuclear death!

You're right. It's a sad reality. The commercialism sometimes takes away from what the athletes do on the field.

Each time, the hosts try to outdo each other and costs are getting way too high.

It would be nice for a host country to just cut all the glitter and concentrate on making the games more affordable to attend and promote the spirit of the games. I guess that just ain't possible.

IMHO, the IOC is pretty corrupt and has lost integrity. Too bad, because there's so much history behind the events.

SkinnyPupp 10-17-2009 09:08 PM

^^^ I'm pretty sure that's what Vancouver 2010 is going to be like. It's not cheap, but it's definitely not going to be the gaudy over the top eyesore that was the 2008 summer olympics.

And if you grew up watching olympics in Canada, I don't see how you think the coverage is not all about the athletes.

Hondaracer 10-17-2009 10:04 PM

BC will show itself off with it's natural setting and great new venue's, nothing really over the top at all keeping focus on the athletes perhaps

El Bastardo 10-17-2009 10:31 PM

I moved away from downtown almost four months ago and came back last week to see some friends. I can't tell you how nice it was seeing how things have been cleaned up. I didn't have my car accosted by some junkie begging for table scraps. I wasn't subjected to a slew of torn fences or broken windows as I drove through the DTES into Gastown. And I didn't have some bum follow me into 7-11 when I went to get myself a goddamned Dr. Pepper.

The olympics have whipped the city's authorities into shape to prevent us from embarassing ourselves. Instead of seeing a Dateline NBC report on "Canada's Homeless Problem" come next November we can look forward to some positive reviews on a great olympic series that took place in Canada's greatest city.

Oh, and to stay on topic:

Fuck Hitler.

Coverage of athletes is fine, it's all the other stuff.

Doesn't matter. It'll come, it'll go, we'll all have a hangover, and shit will flow downhill again.

So do you think people will say, "Holy Mary Lucifer, I like what I see. Let's try to keep it this way from now on!" If hosting the Olympics cleans up the streets, solves some of the homelessness, and makes our streets safer, then it would be the best by-product of the events.

If it's just sweeping the shit under the carpet, then it's gonna make matters worse when it's all over.

Back on topic..........

The British weren't looking to improve China... they just wanted to sell their Opium and ensure their sea supremacy and colonies
